A Cracking Pot of Tea !

Postby mally » December 24, 2010, 6:06 pm

For those of you who yearn for a really good drink of tea, I found a place last week that serves a really good pot (yes, a tea pot) of tea. Apparantly the girl gets it sent to her from the UK, and if you like strong tea then this is the place for you, (also the pot holds the best part of a second cup, if, like me, you're a tea monster ). It took a lot of getting it out of the staff, but the make is Ringtons, based in Newcastle, UK, and has a great reputation in the North of England, I only found the name out when the girls showed me the packet, it appears they couldn't pronounce Ringtons - - hence their hesitation when I asked.
The price of this was only 30 baht for the pot !
Now for the bad bit - I don't know the bloody name of the place, and again the girls working there couldn't tell me  but it's located between Steves Fish & Chips and a bar named Happy Bar Dao (not sure if I've spelt that right), had a small meal there also, that was good and cheap, but for me the tea was the main attraction.

I am a teaaholic too, and it wasnt easy to find a place to relax and sip away, but found one at that ice cream type palour / restaurant near the old movie theatre at the back of main police station..in the end I found a good way was to tear the little yellow label off the lipton teabag, and wave it in the face of non english speaking staff at a restaurant , shop or cafe..they all seem to know about Lipton...

Not sure mate, but it looked more like a cooked food place than a cake place. I cann't check it out for you as I'm in Patters for Xmas now.
The food I got (Thai) was good & cheap, and I remember they had Farrang menu also, but I don't recall them having scones and the like.

Looks like the days of having to suffer Liptons p*ss are coming to an end, Ringtons here, Yorkshire at the Irish Clock, and the introduction of tea pots is good news, I really bloody hate swilling a tea bag around in my cup, and then trying to find somewhere to dump it. Now just got the bloody exchange rate to worry about.

Agree with you about the Ringtons,Mally........I was recently at the place you're talking about and there were some other things that impressed me there.
1. The breakfast was perfect, well cooked and very tasty ,washed it down with the pot of cha and I was well set for the day !
2. Service came with a lovely smile from the polite and friendly staff ...(often missing here these days, in my opinion.)
3. They spoke Engrish !
4. Very inexpensive and painless check-bin,to round things off .
THUMBS UP and hope the very pleasant young lady that runs the place does well.I will be there for breakfast whenever I'm back in town.
I also can't tell you the name of the place though....shame on us who can't read Thai !

, I hadn't noticed this before, but now you mention it youre right. Makes a pleasant change to many a Thai run place. Funny that in "The Land Of Smiles" it's the Farrang owners that seem to smile more to us customers than the Thai owners.
And, I finally got to know the name of the place, it's The Blue Orchid, but the sign hasn't arrived yet (TIT).
This is a good line up of places now, this place, Steve's Fish & Chips, The Irish Clock, Nobbi's, Soi Sauce is getting to be a "The" street to eat in.
Now, the plan for the new year (for the more rotund only), breakie at the Blue Orchid, Sunday roast at The Irish Clock, late snack at Nobbis, a few beers, fish & chips from Steves, washed down wi a pot of tea from The Blue Orchid !
Oh, I forgot about the New Years Diet ! Aw, resolutions were made to be broken anyway
