I know a lot of folks do not like it but the Ambassador hotel is nice if you stay in the tower above the 19 floor. I think their breakfast is pretty good.

Another is the Presidents hotel on Soi 11. Do not stay in the tower 3 but 1 and 2 are great and breakfast is very good.

Both are very close to Skytrain which is a priority to me.

tenbyboy wrote:Thanks again guys. Looked at the Presidents link and the cheapest rate quoted is 6000 bht a night. Can't afford that! A friend has stayed at the Ambassador and said it's OK, but he is looking for an alternative. May give it a go.

Hi tenbyboy,
Cheapest suite at Presidents is 3400/night, booked online....
well, you did ask for a "good" hotel
Ambassador starts around 1400 baht/night... I think?!
also, "Manhatton" may be worth a look and is same money as Ambassador.

If you have a Thai friend have them call the Grand President and usually the rate drops. Even if you call direct the price drops. Just mention you will be staying at Ambassador and that ususally helps.

Luck to you!!!!!!

A buddy stays at the President Solitaire on his trips to Bangkok, highly recommends it and also, as BP mentioned, says the room price can be negotiated. Mrs polehawk and I will be roosting here for a few days on our next trip.

Nana Hotel? It's OK if you're a single guy who wants close proximity to NEP, I suppose. My impressions were it looked like the walls hadn't seen a paint brush since the place was built some forty years ago. Room assigned had a strong smell of urine so we were moved to another one. The next morning we were outta there anyway. Just my opinion, of course. Don't sue me.
