Sorry to sound so negative but the windows seem incredibly small,, out of scale to the house.

Perhaps the windows are small to minimize heat transfer. You will find the same thing in many houses in Las Vegas where the temp exceeds 100 during most of the summer.

You're probably right Jimbo,, it just seemed to appear out of scale.... Seems a shame to have to lessen the natural light and view eh?

That's assuming they have a view other than the neighbors. :D I hope they plan some vegetation to provide shade, windows or not, that makes all the difference. If it were me and I had any kind of a view i would opt for bigger windows and use insulated curtains or cellular blinds when the sun is out. But as I think Alan said previously, he just builds them to the customer's specs.

Sorry to highjack your thread Alan, but does anyone know the deal with these house design books you see in most Thai book shops. I've bought one in the <1m baht range. It shows a number of designs and an associated cost with each design. (The book is printed by G@T Press & Graphic. Apart from that rest is in thai)

Is this cost to buy the materials, materials & plans, or materials, plans & labour? Or is it just an indication of how much it should cost to build? :?

Has anyone gone down this route and actually built a house from one of these books?

I've seen a nice little two bed / two shower-room design that I like. If I could take a few months out, wouldn't mind supervising the build myself. :-k

Cheers,
Deano.

There is one advantage of having small windows, you can walk around the house in your underpants.

on contraire, just need someone with an imagination. though there really isn't much you can do, except add more glass, maybe a unique dining area for sunrise/sunset, and some outside sitting areas, whether open, screened or not, depending on weather and insect activity for the day. will admit, some of the designs he gets aren't too imaginative, and like myself, maybe they aren't used to year round warm weather and thought wasn't taken into account. as this one has very little overhang of roof to provide shade. i would/will put almost a carport type extension on all sun exposed sides of next house. and of course all glass on non sun side.

i know what you mean though, the next house, if i get around to building, will be unique, extremely. 8)

Alan - sorry this time you've let the side down, here is why -
photo 1, brush strokes are visible in the finish
photo 2, the dogs bowl is empty - what else is there that is interesting?
photo 3, is that the kitchen in the bottom right hand corner?
photo 4, ?
photo 5, no way off this porch - to the outside world that is, unless you jump.
photo 6, sh1t pump and tank set up - across a footpath...tutt..tutt..trip hazard, and the water tank needs to be held up by the boundary wall, or is the base to the water tank out of level? something is wrong.
photo,7,8,9 etc - nothing remarkable and nothing exceptional
Now, next time put something on that's gonna "wow" us {imo).
