A New Prison for Udon .

Well with all the new developments I suppose it was inevitable .The current premises are housing three times the planned number of inmates including 400 females, even after the recent releases , so it is badly needed. It will be capable of containing 6,000 prisoners including, unlike the old one, those in Cat A in ultra secure accommodation. It will have a separate wing exclusively for females. Details of its location have not been released yet, but it is said to be in a rural area way outside of town . I know a site has been surveyed out past the Army golf club.More details as I learn .

Long time nothing has been revealed however it is interesting to note that it is not included in the list of projects being presented today to the PM for government funds. However there are five quite large road schemes and top of the list is the continuation of the four lane highway from the new Tesco/Big C to the Khon Kaen junction. Taking it past Maliwan villas .So it could be they have dropped the prison idea and are instead going for roads .

The January article at http://www.udon-today.com/home/index.ph ... 3-02-51-49 says the city has interest in sites in Ban Khao (บ้านขาว), Kut Sa (กุดสระ), and Na Gwang (นากว้าง)....all three tamboons located off the Nongkai highway before you hit Na Ka.
The article said the government would seek feedback from villagers before deciding.

I haven't seen any updated articles.......but it appears the wheels are turning.

Is their IQ high enough to remember to take off the legchains when they use the swimming pool.

Hopefully with more prisoners they will have a much larger shop full of their designed wooden tables,chairs although understandably not allowed to make a wooden ladder

They should get cracking with choosing the site

A friend with ties to the Chamber of Commerce tells me the new site will along the road to Ban Phue (a left off the Nongkai Hwy), but not far from the highway. He said the plan is to turn the existing prison land into a city park. No timeline available at this time.
