A trading estate in Udon?

Postby trubrit » November 7, 2011, 10:28 am

Discussions are taking place between local officials of creating a new purpose built trading estate here in Udon, following several enquiries from firms displaced by the floods in Ayutthaya . Several big names are involved with one , I believe, a chocolate factory, already signed up .It makes sense when you think about it as most of the work force originates from this region and they will be reunited with their families , whilst still able to work .
As several sites are under consideration I am not able to give a location yet .

Locating a chocolate factory in Udon would be ideal as there is ready supply of Ompah-Lumpahs.

"most of the work force originates from this region "

I've often thought the same thing....why don't factories locate here? I'd guess long distance from the ports (both for receiving ingredients/supplies...as well as long distance from the ports for sending their products out). A high-speed railway might help, but I'm not sure even then the economics of large-scale factories in Udon make sense.

Tesco Lotus with its distribution centre located past Rangsit and now flooded twice in 2 years has been muted to relocate, between Korat and KK, probably near the Thai Beverage factory ?

Tesco does seem to have taken a bigger hit from the flooding than other stores.....Ngeesoon/Makro have their shelves (for the time) nearly full, while Tesco's are bare. We stopped in the UD Town Tesco a week ago and shelves of important items were bare. A Tesco mini mart across from Ban Hui market was the same way yesterday. Not only are they losing business in the short term, but a % of customers who end up shopping elsewhere now may continue shopping elsewhere in the future.
