A what if scenario regarding health

Postby easterneye » March 31, 2010, 11:54 am

Hi all
Just a thought , again with regard to looking to future financial planning ,,, if for example you have been happily retired in the LOS with your younger wife who is taking good care of you for several years and then one of the terrible things that can happen in our elder years ie. a stroke and you become disabled is it game over when you go for your next annual MOT medical ticket for your renewal of your non O visa ?
I have no doubt in my mind that my wonderfull little missus would return to the UK with me thats not the issue here but I am thinking more on the financial planning side .
Cheers

No such thing if you reside here on either a 1yr extension based on retirement or marriage. A medical evaluation isn't part of the package for renewing an extension of stay. But if you're disabled or under a doctors care, than you're able to remain 90 days at a time with documentation from the doctor.

More info here, specifically section 2.25 (Medical Treatment)

Thanks for that Papa ,,,,,, I have been misled by a friend of mine ,, he told me he had to go to the doctor every year for the annual MOT ticket to take with him to be enclosed with his annual non O extention

I think that used to be the case, just not any more.
I am not sure if the doctor actually needed to physically see you before they issued the certificate though - so maybe that is why immigration gave up on the concept.

That's correct Bob, I forgot about that. It only applied to the extension based on retirement. I believe it was 2 or 3 yrs ago when they did away with that requirement.
