Abortion in LOS

Postby sosisbesar » September 27, 2009, 1:48 am

Having just returned home in Europe I got a call from a girl I've been with in Udon, telling me that she has missed her period and suffers from morning sickness. I advised her to buy a pregnancy test and call me back after she's done the test. It's not impossible that she got pregnant because one time the condom broke, but it's equally possible this is just a scam to shake some extra baht out of my pocket.

As I want to be prepared I need to know how much a doctor charges for a (pill) abortion and hope some one on this forum has been through this before.

Thanks!

Yes, you could be taken for a ride.100 baht is the cost of a pregnancy test. Not sure about the cost ofa abortion, but many doctors have a side business in abortions.Be very carefull who you choose to a abortion done in Thailand as it is illegal. If my missus had a problem,I would inquire at a private hospital, preferably a highend one.PS the prego thing is a old trick for sympathy for bargirls and maybe women?

I would be telling her that if she is indeed pregnant I would wait until the Baby is born and then have a DNA test done. Then and only then would I take responsibility for the Child. See what reaction you get ??

Let us know first how long you have known her,see you have mentioned though girl as opposed to girlfriend.
How will you know she has done the test anyway as you are not here and she may as well say yes to wait for your next move.
Maybe best follow Aardvark's advice and loads of pictures showing her bump, none of this hiding a pillow/cushion under her dress [-X

RU486 the Abortion pill is not available in Thailand.

Advice above on illegal procedures is good, there are some clinics in Udon that do them, and if yours wont, they will refer onwards.

What u need to do is present the clinical picture of needing a Dilation and Curette, then they will go in, clean, and remove any retained placental products, based on the fact that the ladies period is unstable, ongoing discharge, possible mis carriage etc.....

The coat hangers and other anatomical abuses that exists in the smaller towns and villages are horrific.

Ruptured uterus, infections, all leading to ongoing infertility in later life.

Dont need to really wait till the childs born to be sure, the first ultrasound will give u an idea of the approx age in weeks, look at ur calender, were you in Udon then ??

hope this assists

According to various other sources abortion isn't illegal in LOS if licensed Thai physicians determine that the girl's physical or mental health requires it.

I've known her for a while. She's a decent girl, as far as I've been able to establish. Definitely not a bar girl, but I have no intention of marrying her (in the near future). Not because of her, but because of me. I'm bad husband material, and though she's alluded to marriage more than once, I've never given her any illusions.

No way! I would at any cost avoid to put such ideas into her head. Suppose she takes me up on it and decides to keep the baby? I've always found it kind of pathetic to see these falang septuagenerians parading their new-born babies in the Complex. To each his own, but I definitely DON'T want to father any more children [-X
Besides, the longer you wait, the riskier an abortion gets so she'll need to have it done a.s.a.p. if she's indeed pregnant.

From what I've read so far on the Web, it is. It isn't sold over the counter but can only be administered under medical supervision.

That's certainly NO option! That's why I asked how much a doctor charges to administer Mifepristone/Misoprostol.

Too risky and I wouldn't do it even if I could.
It seems that although the woman will miscarry after taking the tablets, sometimes remnants of the embryo remain in the womb, requiring aspiration abortion. That's why the tablets need to be administered under medical supervision.
I don't mind paying for the abortion. I'm not avoiding my responsibility. I just don't want to be scammed.

Well, whether it is or not is in fact a moot point. That's why I put "pill" between brackets in my OP. What I need to know is the price of any medically performed abortion in Thailand. Maybe your friend's friend could shed some light on that.

if using RU486, has to be used within 9 weeks, effectiveness drops considerably, and must return in 2 days for another drug, to assist RU486, then 12 days later to verify results. also patient needs to be short distance to hospital in case of adverse reaction, heavy bleeding. which i wouldn't recommend here, since nobody seems to have excess or any blood supplies at times. surgical removal, probably cheaper anyway.

sadly, you can't be here to supervise/verify pregnancy, so if planning on returning to udon area, yea, scam or not, good idea to pay. if you have no plans on fathering children in future, may i suggest vasectomy. really takes the worry of that away. had mine done when i was 43 ish, before coming here, didn't need any surprises, in states or here. one of he best and smartest things i ever did, most insurance companies in states provide it free of all charges, bean counter thing, much cheaper than paying med bills for 18 years for any surprises.

if you can't find a dr or solution, send me a PM before wednesday. does she already have a doc in mind?

There is at least one out patient clinic, cost (few years back) 1,500 baht. If you need the name/address PM me and I will get it for you. Might be best to let her decide what to do, so send her some money, and if your not interested in a long term relationship, change your number and move on.

If you tell her you are coming back to Udon, for a DNA test, you may never hear from her again.

Sterile procedure, me thinks not, a quick wash and some gloves and probably use a suction catheter for airway procedures and not a proper aspiration catheter.
