Accommodation in Udon

Postby manfriday » October 7, 2009, 6:46 pm

Hi
I am flying in from Chiang Mai to Udon early Jan 2010 and am looking for a hotel to stay for about 10 nights.
Does anyone have any comments to make on the Udon Hotel - good or bad.
Have does it compare to Ruy Suk for example.

The Irish Clock takes some beating but it was my understanding that building work (the new Top Mansion) was to commence next door. Also parking can be a problem - Is the system still in operation where you have to park alternatively on each side of the road depending what day it is?

Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
PS. Nok flights from Chiang Mai to Udon to recommence. See website.

Don't know about the Udon Hotel as I have never stayed there.
Ruy Suk is cheap, cheerful & clean - represents good value for what you pay.
Have not seen (or heard) any rumors about when work on Top Mansion 2 is going to start - the last information I had was December 2008 :D - so your guess is as good as mine....The parking in the Soi is still alternative sides, alternative days. The eventual Top Mansion 2 site is currently being used as a parking lot so no shortage of available places down the Soi at the moment :D

if finances not a problem, Irish Clock would be my choice, good value, close to everything, no need for transport, which at night time can add considerably to you stay if out of immediate area. one of the better values, RuySuk, still walking distance to everything, and has food on premises. top mansion is also a value, but beds a bit, ok, very firm. parking is still alternating on that street, and no construction next to IC, on hold for now. i wanting to be out of central location, TKC over by nong prajack park, and also jan condotel, 2 decent values. and inexpensive to get to main center and back during daylight, baht busses, cheap and plenty of them. i wanting pool, centara for 1100, presidents 900 range, and if having transport, nakhaburi resort, 900 range, i think, out of town about 15 kms. centara, nakhaburi, ban chiang, only 3 i know that have real pools, rest are small or wading. plenty of options, book 1st couple nights, so not locked in, sometimes hard to get refund. if not up to par, just find another. if not transportation, i definitely try to stay close to town center or NPJ park. definintely not past the ring rd, and transport/baht busses are iffy, and tuk tuk's expensive after dark. good luck

never stayed at udon hotel, may be noisy, as popular club across the street.

Thanks guys for the information.
Think I will get in touch with Steve at the Irish Clock.
Stayed there a couple of times before and its good value for the money and a great place to stay.
No building work next door = a good sleep in on a morning! =D>

Cheers
