ACS Outreach
Hi,
Thanks for keeping this ACS thread activeand useful. I'll be there on the 16th bright & early.
My passport went through my washing machine.
But most of the ink on all the stamps & signatures remained legible enough to pass muster during 2 consecutive 90 day reports. No complaint from Udon.
But, as my visa consultant in Thailand has noted, I'm out of pages, and should try for a new passport, or more pages, before submitting papers to renew (in November) my yearly Non-O [basis of child born in Thailand] which expires in December.
She notes the damage is still significant enough that officials in BKK might still raise an issue.
Question #1:
Based on the above info, -do I apply for a new passport, or simply ask for more pages?
I can post a photo here of the visa page in my passport, with name redacted, if it's worth having a look at the "damage" in question.
I'd prefer a new passport, but will ACS view it the same way? I'd rather not have issues when renewing as since the recent shift in government has seen ever tighter scrutiny across the board.
Question #2
When they cancel your old passport and mail it back to you with the new passport, does Thai immigration know what to do? How to process (carry over) your existing Thai Non-O visa and it's related extensions into your new passport?
Or does it trigger the need for an entirely new visa?
Please, no need for debates re: what a "visa" or an "extension" is, just looking for answers e.g. "yes they'll carry it over", or "no they won't, you have to start over again".
Any advice much appreciated.

Answer to #2...no need for a new visa, immigration transfers the information/data from your visa and extension in the old passport to the new passport. There's an unofficial fee of 500bt. When you receive your passports there should be a letter included from ACS addressed to immigration. Don't recall what's stated in the letter, but something along the lines that you were issued a new passport.jimjay wrote:Hi,

Thanks for that Papaguido much appreciated. That solves quetion #2. If anyone's got an idea on question #1, that would make for an easier Friday.papaguido wrote:Answer to #2...no need for a new visa, immigration transfers the information/data from your visa and extension in the old passport to the new passport. You can apply for a new passport whether your old passport is damaged or not. Just bring the money, the old passport and a passport photo. It's easier to fill out the form online, print it and bring that; however, you can fill out the form on site.

Our daughter had a damaged passport many years ago. She was almost refused entry into Thailand and sent packing on the next flight out. Given the concerns over security these days, I'd pay the $110 and get a new one and be done with it.

Get a new passport. The new ones already have the extra pages. I'm not sure if they even will add extra pages now, and the additional cost for a new passport versus extra pages is only around $20.00, I think.

Thanks Mak & to all for the advice, it went quite well. Registered for new passport & got my income letter notarized.
Was there at 8:15, #50 on the list and out by 10AM.
There were probably 70-80 people but it was a breeze, kudos to the ACS team & wardens for such an efficient system.

Got there about 10:55, signed in (#115), no line and 3 ahead of me being waited on. A minute later I was being asked by a staffer how I may be helped and 5 minutes after that I received my completed notarized affidavit. Big thanks to the ACS staff and embassy wardens =D>

the hours were 8-12 so all of us former military that got there prior to 8 (at least 50!!) had a longer wait than those who wandered in later... Thanks to the VFW lads for assisting the Consular outreach staff...

We got there at 9:45.......number 98 while they were waiting on #50. We were done by 10:30. Thanks to the wardens/VFW for keeping things organized and freeing up the embassy folks to do embassy business. By the time I left, 110+ people had signed in.
As always, a big tip of the hat to the ACS folks for taking the time to come to Udon.....and save us the headaches of going to Bangkok.

Another successful Outreach in Udon. 118 people were served. A big thanks to the 3 ACS staff who came to Udon. Very efficient service. The majority of people came early. By 10:30 the majority had left. Between 11 and 12 they were only a few walk-ins.

When are the next ACS Outreach visits to Udon Thani (2016)?
