Agent of the King

Postby tingtongfalang » October 10, 2008, 10:25 pm

Hi Everybody,
I've been busy and not in this forum for awhile...(school in Chiang Mai, girlfriends village and family, back to USA for business, etc). When I return to LOS I will marry her. After we marry she will go to Sakon Nakhon December 1, 2008 and meet the King or the Kings son in a ceremony where she will receive an "Agent of the King" through her University I think. She has a University degree in Environmental. I don't doubt her. I don't understand what will happen during and after this ceremony. Does anybody know more about it? Thanks

Somewhere on the forum there is a topic covering the whole degree ceremony, maybe our mine of info BM could provide a link. I've attended two and I wouldn't do another thank you, for reasons that will be apparent when you read the thread.

two and a half years plus since the neice's graduation.. A comment on the job progression of the neice and the affect of possessing a 4 year "bidness" degree..
She started off doing boring simplistic bookkeeping work for an old-style Chinese-Thai warehouse company in Nakhon Pathom where she stayed a mere six months or so making a max of 7500 Baht per month. She then surprised us, acting a bit out of character by getting teed off with the work conditions and aggressively seeking a new job in BKK. She managed to find a very decent job with "Food By Phone" as a full accountant that puts 12500 Baht a month in her pocket these days.. She's gotten a 10% increase in salary each year there. Not much in the way of benefits, about 5-7 days paid vacation per year. The advantage to the job is the company is Farang run and quite laid back. Although she works 48 hours minimum a week 0900-1800 Monday-Saturday, it is relaxed with company policy dictating "free style" (the neice's words) apparel at work.. This is totally unlike most Thai white collar workers and means she doesn't have to purchase expensive "business suits" nor is she expected to arrive a work in "model mode" which would require going to the beauty salon daily.. All told, she's a good example of how getting a degree can positively affect getting a decent job..

Congratulations Frazee on her initiative, maybe a bit of 'Falang in the family' has actually rubbed off on her. :D :D
Always good to hear a 'good news story'.
