Air Fares to U.K.

Postby douglas » May 9, 2011, 3:44 pm

Hi,
Just been checking air faees BKK to Man. U.K.. Got a shock. Did this route last Oct. Cost was less than 30,000B. Got to go home later this year, granddaughter getting married. The shock was the price, this has risen by over 25%. Now 41,000B.
Decided to check prices from Man. to BKK, return, using same airline and the same time period, and dates. The price for the flight from U.K. to BKK. return was 425GBP's. Less than half the cost of buying the ticket in LOS. As you are with the same airline and flying the same time period, be it the other way around, and same class. To me this is a total rip off flying from LOS. The sad thing is you cannot use the U.K. tickets to fly the other way round. So you have got to pay the highly inflated Thai prices. I know you can fly to London about 2,000B cheaper but as i have to travel out of the U.K. the cost of the flight to my home would be more than the savings. Plus there is only one flight a day from Gatwick, and 2 flights a day from London Dock airport.
Tried most of airlines and travel agents and cannot get cheaper. Unless somebody knows diff. and can tell me. I am not paticular about what days i travel on and usully find mid week cheaper.
Cheers Doug.

your post intrigued me douglas so having nothing to do i looked up B.A. sales and a flight from heathrow to bangkok return. the price came up for 350pounds including tax. what puzzled me was the same price was quoted against the return flight so i carried on and found they are now quoting a price per leg so your return manchester- bangkok could actualy be 850gbs.

Problem is that a lot of booking classes available for travel from the UK are not available from Asia.
Turkish airlines may be your cheapest option in the end as they do have the lowest L fare available in October from all airlines. Followed by Finnair and Jet and air france.

But yeah even Turkish Airlines will be 38k including taxes

Hi,
Stargate, Price quoted was for a return flight. B.A. were one of the dearest and cost more than Thai Airlines prices. Used to work for BOAC and then B.A. when they changed the name in the early 70's, and even with a discount is was very expensive. I went through the whole process up to when you have to pay, then stopped. Asked daughter in law, to go to MAN. a/p and find out average price. She was quoted between 480 and 520 GBP's for a return flight to BKK. This was with three different airlines.
David will try your suggestion today. One of the few i did not try. Will let you know the outcome.
Cheers all Doug.

Hi,
David. Checked Jet on internet. I hope they service their planes better than their internet.
Put in flight dates, and times and got a message "Please wait while we process your request. Since this may take a few seconds, please do not close this window." Did as requested but after ten mins. had gone by, closed window.
Went to their "get schedule" section. put in dates and times, and got,
BKK to MAN. No flights. MAN to BKK, no flights. Tried a few different dates got the same info. So could not get prices
I don't think Jet will be added to my list.
Turkish airlines was over 41,000B from BKK. and not the cheapest. Flew with them about 3 years ago. Would not use them again. Worst airline i have ever flown with in my life. To many faults to list here.
Cheers Doug.

I have been looking for a flight for the misses to visit the UK from Bangers and as you said was being quoted £200 + on the flights to Bangers.

Lets see what she comes up with when having a trip around the travel agents of Udon... please tell me she dosnt get Egypt Air!!!

Found Jet ok to fly with, flown them 3 or 4 times from London to Bangers, always on time, reasonable food, only let down is the 737 from India to the swamp, got upgraded 2 times on that leg :)

Try Air Asia to Stansted via KL, sometimes they have 'specials'

Anyone had experience with Kingfisher? Seem to be the cheapest at the moment (29K).
