Al Mailhiot

Al Mailhiot passed away on November 22.

His wife, Thongdee, will have monks come to their home late each afternoon until Saturday. On Saturday around noon his body will be moved to Wat Pa Non Niwet. A ceremony will begin there around 1pm. At 3pm the cremation will take place. His remains will be interred at that wat. For those of you who attended his mother's funeral it is the same wat.

People are welcome at their home to pay respects each afternoon. Their home is at 24/2 Supakitchanya Road. This is very near Nong Prajak Park. Coming from town center past Wattana Hospital and Bella Italia Restaurant turn right on the soi with the police substation. Go past the substation and turn left at the second soi. Immediately on the right is the usual temporary shade cover over part of the street.

Wat Pa Non Niwet is off of Udondutsadee Road at the intersection with Soi 7 and Nonniwate (Nonniwet) Road. The wat is a couple hundred meters down the road. The ceremony will take place at the pavilion on the right just inside the main gate. Coming from the 3 circles going towards Nongkai drive past Ban Hoy Market, Siri Grand Hotel, and Soi 6 (goes to White Elephant), turn left onto Nonniwate Road.

Albert C. Mailhiot was born in New York City on August 2, 1934 and was a long time visitor and resident of Udon Thani. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 10249. He is survived by his wife, 2 sisters, 3 sons, and a step-daughter.

Al was stationed at the local airbase in 1973 when he met Thongdee Comhongsa who was employed at the base. They became friends and communicated with each other after Al returned to the US and left the military. He went to work for Honeywell Corporation as an electrical engineer who worked on sensitive electronics in military settings.

They decided to marry and Thongdee went to the US in April 1975. They were married near Boston on June 7, 1975. He was 40 and she was 37. They lived in many places as Al's work took him to different US and foreign military installations around the world. Besides many locations in the US they also lived in Japan, Mexico, and Germany.

In 1993 Thongdee returned to Udon Thani to prepared for Al's retirement in 1995. She bought land and had their current home near Nong Prajak Park built. They lived there during their time in Udon.

If anyone's interested in stopping by the house to pay respects, as you're driving around Nongprajak, you'll pass Wattana Hospital, then AUA. Take the right immediately after AUA. Al's home is about 100m inside that soi.....you'll see the tent set up in front of the home.
Al's wife and granddaughter speak English.

Monks will come at 7pm for prayers. Food will be served afterwards.
