Another ATM adventure

Postby Bump » November 15, 2006, 12:17 pm

This one really had a surprise ending. I'm at Lotus a week or so ago, using the ATM. To get some of those oh so precious dollars. Put the ATM card in from america. Get a signal back on the machine a failure to communicate. Two machines so I try the other, same message. No money issued.

Having been down this road before I checked the account on the net, sure enough my account had been debted for the transaction.

So begin the calls to the states about five of them, only to be told to submit thier form, whcih of course I can't get. So they decicde they are going to fax me one. I asked for a blank form Via e-mail no can do. Faxes for whatever reason don't work. Probably couldn't get an approaval for an internationsl call, just a guess. So they opt to send the from to me in overnight mail, six day and counting no form.

I have a friend from cop shop of thirty years, who is in charge of security and frauds for an American bank, so I contact him lay it out. He say it's the US bank problem and really not unusual at all. He is currently working a case involving over six thousand dollars, same problem.

He suggests contacting the local bank. I'm real reluctant to do this, becuase I always get American bank problem not ours. But hey I did what was suggested. First I contacted the Lotus Branch, who sent me to the Main Branch, the wife spoke to the Assistant Manager. She wanted a statement, well I won't be seeing that for a very long time. I asked if she would accept a computer print out of the account, answer yes. I printed it and delievered it so her on Friday afternoon, thinking this is a major waste of time.

On Sunday the 10th my account was credited with a Merchants credit and the money was back in the account.

So I will be showing up today at the Bank of Bangkok's main branch, with some flowers for the Assistant manager.

Ray, you don't seem to be having much luck with ATM's lately. Anyway at least you got it sorted in the end which I bet is a big relief.

I received the same error twice in the past month, once before I returned to the UK and once last week at Big C. Both times I had to call the bank in the UK to report the error. I discovered that the reason for the communication error was because they placed a security hold on the account. If you take more money than usual amount of money or there is unusual activity they will place a hold on the account. It's a bit of a pain especially when you go shopping only to find out that you can't access your money. You then have to waste several minutes calling overseas to get the problem sorted.

I guess one good thing is that I know my money is safe if the card is stolen.

simply wait a couple days, and they do sort themselves out, without any notice given to either banks. them computers are self thinkers. had it happen a couple times, first time got the tourist police involved, as all of the sudden, nobody spoke english at te bank, well, untill tourist police arrived. informed common computer error and will straighten itself out, which i did then and couple other times after.

Truthfully that may have just been the flow. But I'm still down $125.00 form the last time when it didn't do that and all my trying to get it done, led to nothing.

But I'm learning slowly but surely
