Another hard up farang?

Postby trubrit » January 16, 2011, 8:24 am

I put a question mark in the title because I am not sure if the guy I am going to tell you about is lacking money or brains .
Anyway. Last night sitting in the UD night market with my usual bottle of whiskey, watching replays of previous football on the big screen, alone, my wife had gone off shopping and the boy was playing 5 a-side on the green. Along comes this farang, reasonably dressed, wearing safari shorts and shirt, quite clean . He said something to me in broken English, which I didn't understand but his actions indicated he wanted to sit and drink my whiskey.Well I am normally very polite but his audacity brought an immediate p--ss off response, which he did. I then watched him going round other tables till he came to a group of Thai guys who had a beer tower. He obviously asked them for a drink as one guy, obviously more polite than myself, gave him his full glass, which he downed in one and then indicated by pointing at the tower, he wanted more, by the gestures it was clear the Thai wasn't having that. He then went over to the beer seller and opened her fridge, but her small beer is 30bht, so he went off. Later on when leaving with my family I saw him coming back on the other side .
Now I don't know about other forumites but this sort of thing makes me feel ashamed to be a farang. Regardless of what some may think we do all get branded by the actions of a few individuals. No it wasn't the German guy with the hole in his shoes that "lost his wallet on the bus .
ijuts rule!

The alarm bells on my radar would have gone off as soon as I clocked the safari shorts.

Your response was the same as mine would have been. Had you bought him a drink, he would have been harder to remove than a Tick !!

Prenders I suspect you may be a bit hasty in rushing to judgement on safari shorts.

Would you really have shooed these away?

In the U.S. this is very common. It is called welfare or socialism. The U.S. government thinks nothing of taking ones' property by coersion and giving it to another. People have no shame in taking it either. It has become a way of life.

This guy would get top marks on OT's cringe-o-meter. Another way for someone to get top marks on OT's cringe-o-meter is to pay for something with satangs, which I have seen a backpacker do in 7-ELEVEN.

OT........... \:D/

Ho! Ho! Ho! Happy New Year.
I am back from my travels.

Well Trubrit. At least you did not have to listen to his hard luck story. It would of involved a Thai Lady. Buying of gold, house, land ect. And then the sad goodbye and his lose with the bitterness to follow! After that, if you had been so stupid as to listen to him, he would of tried to touch you up for some money.

Back to work tomorrow. To listen to all the stories of the cold, snow and ice.

It beggers beleaf. That a man would buy something that he cant own in his name. Then gives it away to a Thai girl half his age, that he may have only known for a short time (married or not). All because she said she Loves him !!!!

Hi,
Talking about safari shorts. Bit of subject. Used to wear them all the time when i was in S. Africa. years ago. There you could also get a matching safari jacket. These were very good and comfortable in the heat. Been looking for the jackets in LOS.. So far, in ten years, not been able to find decent safari jackets here. Ample pockets and very comffy. Anyone can help, and know where to buy in LOS, please. The proper ones that is.
I dress for my own comfort, not other peoples, except for formal occasions when i dress to suit where i am going. Pun intended.
Also Welshboy, you can buy a house in your own name, land may be different. But there are many ways around this.
I bought my house, in my name five years ago. I bought because the money i paid for it would have gone to a rich landlord, to make him richer, plus i could never do what i wanted to, to the house. I was lucky when i bought, as the B was 71B to 1GBP. The price of the house and land has doubled, in B, in the last five years, and the B dropped to 48 to the GBP. A good investment and something to help the Thai. wife, if anything should happen to me.She deserves at least this. She also has her own house in Korat. Been with her for 7 years now, married in 2009. Never been happier. It does not begger belief.
In six years i would have paid for the house with the rent i would be paying, Plus i have got the money back with interest if i should sell. Floats my boat.

Hi Douglas.

When i said. " It beggers beleaf " I was talking about the stupid falangs that come to Thailand. Put everything in there T/G name and hopes for the best.

I was not talking about the people that come here. Start businesses and/or get married and have a happy well rounded life. Providing for their wives while they are alive and after, when they are gone. [-o<

Came across one in Nong Khai today on the way back from VISA run.
Claimed to be Austrian (possibly was, accent was that region of Europe), tall & skinny with plenty of stubble on his face. Stunk of alcohol, claiming to be skint and Thai GF threw him out of the house etc.
Bless him. He got bugger all from the 3 of us sitting, enjoying a smoke and a coffee.
