Certainly not so in the new Nong Han Lotus, 8kms from my place.
Vegs, fruits and meets are NOT so fresh, I buy vegs eggs and most fruits at the village's morning market.
Their meets often just stink

You're right! There's no comparing market-fresh meats/veggies with supermarket-fresh (IMO). I was talking more about the shelf products.....take the bottle of fish sauce that's factory-marked for 25 baht a bottle and sells for 25 baht in the village but 22 in Tesco......just as one example. The eggs in the market come from the CP chicken farm not far away......on average 32-35 baht per 10....as compared to 40-45 in the supermarkets.

If there does happen to be a Tesco in Ban Dung, they should make sure they have ample security guards because that area is full of gypsies. Australian gypsies mainly. Not too easy to notice them either because they blend in.

I agree with the building of the supermarkets as it teaches the Thais that want to do business to not take the customers for granted with the lack of cleanliness and product selection.A lesson in ''the customer is the most important person in the store'' versus the owner being ''it''!
Also an opportunity for Thais to learn about loyalty versus ''face'' I support my neighborhood businesses if they are congenial and deserving.those that think they are ''it'',can stay that way!

Nah, I don't think they will get it at all.

Maybe the more educated Thais, and I mean no disrespect I live in the village, might realize it's time to make some changes in behavior. I have watched shoppes open in the village opposite from each other selling the same products taking customers from one another. I asked my TF about this and her response is 'up to them'. Drive down any major highway and what to you see on the side of the road shack after shack selling the same product who makes money????
Funny thing is when you pull over to buy something you find all the owners sitting there eating lunch together.....maybe they split the earnings who knows.....

The ''more'' educated Thais are the elite or very rich and it is a good chance that if they have lived and received their education, both schooling and business in the West. But they don't need to compete, collusion is their game amongst each other!

Thais don't compete because of ''face''!Those stalls you see on the highways, selling identical products, have their own customer base and catch ocassional non-locals or tourists! Many, especially in high non-local traffic areas, like Highway 2 and tourist markets, are owned by the same family with paid employees or family members tending!

Some locals can avoid the ''face'' issue, somewhat, when shopping at Tescos and other large inventory outlets, because many of the products are not available in the local mom and pop, which is acceptable,if not liked!

But you can bet your bunny,if the product in the local market is the same as another market ,and they don't buy from the local.great face is lost by the market owner and the customer, somewhat!

I beg to differ on some of your statement on face. Asked my TW about us shopping exclusively in Udon and not in the village at all for anything. She said there is no loss of face whatsoever by doing this, nobody cares.

So now we all know that face is not an issue when doing business in Thailand among the Thais!Thank you [-o<

 I just didn't want to reply with a post that was to long for you to read, considering your earlier objections to my posts!Facts are that people that shop outside a village, probably are not having a conflict with face!
