Anyone having problems with internet connection? (Maxnet)

Postby lee » June 30, 2009, 9:57 am

For the last week or so I've been having intermittent connection problems via TT&T Maxnet. I can browse some websites OK, however most sites I visit return a page load error, address not found or time out error. If I refresh the pages several times I eventually get there, sometimes its not possible to load pages at all. Same problems downloading POP mail too!

I thought it may be a wireless connection problem but ruled that out when I connected directly to the router.

I usually overcome connection problems by resetting the ADSL or disconnecting the power for several seconds, however this does not make a difference any more.

If I connect via GPRS I can browse the web without any problems. I'd like to know if others are having the same problems before I call Maxnet.

Yes, Lee I have been having the exact same problems with Maxnet DSL. My wife has an internet shop and reports the same with her service. Sometimes it works well (like right now). I attribute it to heavy traffic, maybe they are oversubscribed? If you find out anything useful, let us know.

BTW what is GPRS?

Cheers Jim, I'll give them a call later today and see what the problem is.

Can fully confirm these problems. You know, after three years Internet in LOS I just don't care anymore. They all suck. The providers, their technicians, their hardware, their planning...they will solve this problem only for another one to show up in a short amount of time...

You remember the thread where we discussed POP mail and SMTP2go? It ended up with me finding two good working alternatives with my german account. A short time later they (Thailand) successfully stopped these working. Now maxnet is the only way to send mails for me. And I am 100% sure as soon as I would buy the SMTP2go account they would prevent this from working too! TIT!

Thanks guys, I now know what a GPRS is. i read the Wiki article and it may as well have been written in Greek (or Thai script - even worse). You know, I first learned computers on an IBM 650 in the early sixties. Learned machine language, wrote and debugged my own technical programs. Now I can barely operate my DVD remote. It's hell being a dinosaur. Fortunately, my TW is a computer wiz, which is the only way I could ever hope to play on here. :-({|= ](*,) :-"

Yes I remember that thread. I actually invested in the SMTP2go service a short while after because I was having so many problems with maxnet's SMTP. It worked OK for a while and then stopped working all of a sudden. They (smtp2go) advised changing the port settings which I did and it worked OK, but only for a short while. After switching between ports several times I gave up. t wouldn't surprise me if TT&T were blocking access to certain ports.

I can now send mail via TT&T SMTP albeit slowly, when I have problems with certain emails I have to disconnect and use GPRS or webmail. For some bizarre reason I'm unable to send emails via info at udonmap.com, however all other accounts are working. TT&T did block this a while back but didn't explain why and unblocked it for me, now it's blocked again so I will have to call them again to sort it out. :(

Wow! They really dared to do it! Thanks for the follow up, though, good info.

I have noticed some slowness and the odd page needed a double refresh to load up. Seems coincident with a visit from a Maxnet chap who was updating the service agreement as it seems there was some data missing from the original application done last year. He also said that I was now getting 4Mb service instead of 3Mb for the same price 'as standard' although I have never bothered checking as it always seems fast enough for my purposes. Maybe it's something to do with this 'upgrade'?

It has been so slow this evening, that I thought that I was back to dialup and 1995. Pages aren't timing out, but they're taking minutes to fully load.

Very slow here as well (ToT ADSL). Been the same for most of the day - in fact I tried to run a Speedtest earlier, and it timed out
