Apartments with more than a single room

Postby Charlieb » July 10, 2009, 6:41 am

Is there such a thing in Udorn as Apartments or Condos for rent with more than a single room? All I have seen are studio apartments with everything in a single room.

We are thinking of making a move to here but would like to rent for at least the first year or so. I would like at least two bedrooms with a sitting room. A kitchen would be also nice :D

I am trying not to have to rent a house where I would have to worry with yards, etc.

If I had to begin looking at house rentals I would appreciate any pointers concerning whitch areas are best and which areas to avoid.

Thanks

The only place I have ever seen with two bedrooms is The Grand (or whatever name it has now) but that would set you back 3,500 baht a night - hardly sensible for a year
There are not any condos in Udon and I can think of only 1 place that has a room with a kitchen attached (if you PM Lee he would give you details).
You are really talking about renting a house, I can think of no other way that you can satisfy these requirements.
I would not worry about "yard work" most of the properties for rent are on quite small plots & you can always find a local that is well happy to tidy up the yard for couple of hundred baht.
As to where that is more difficult as it is very much up for personal choice.
Unless you can find a town house to rent (can be done, but can be time consuming to find one) then you are almost certainly going to require personal transport.

This thread is well worth you reading...

lots of the building developments/moo bans have rentals with little gardens areas, would be no problem taking care of. some with none i would imagine. a few members recommend lake garden city, or something like that, not too far out, just past ring rd, quiet, and houses/lots range from very small to comfy. once here, simply drive around w/wife and should find something, only took me a few days after i seriously started looking.

Just looking and I see the Udonmap rooms have more than just a bedroom, also BB resort rooms have bedroom, lounge, kitchen and dining and I know Englishmans has a multi room suite, but not with kitchen I don't think.

BB Resort does seem to fit the bill but furniture in the rooms seemed well worn down to me when given a tour. Don't know what kind of deal you could negotiate there but even if you got a unit for 500 baht a day you're talking 15,000 baht a month. Place does have a decent pool and exercise room. As BobH said, transportation is needed out there.

Renting a house. Investigate the surroundings carefully, especially during evening hours, before plunking your money down. We rented a nice, partially furnished 2 BR, 2 BA place near BB Resort a while back. Checked out the area and it was quiet during daytime. Met the older Thai lady next door and she assured us it was a quiet neighborhood. After we moved in all hell broke loose. The older lady's sons-in-law lived there with their families and liked to party 2 or 3 times a week with karaoke machines turned up all the way. People behind us were dog lovers and, to prove it, had SEVEN frigging poodles that never stopped barking the whole time we lived there. Find a farang neighbor, if you can, and ask them what the neighborhood is like. Most will give you a straight answer. Thais are very tolerant to noise made by their neighbors and will put up with almost anything.

Sorry to breathe life back into an old thread guys but I was wondering about all those shops along Adulyadet. Are the areas above those shops not accessible for living quarters? It seems to me that a person could rent something like that at a decent price, and throw a few dollars at it to fix it up so that it's liveable. I wouldn't mind finding a centrally located 2 bed. apt. myself. For the moment, renting a house just isn't practical for me. I stay at the Ruysuk when I come over now so the difference a studio apt. would make would be negligible.

If you mean a 'shop/house' homer then yes they can be rented. In fact if some one wants to live in town then they are possibly a good way to go.
Few cautionary words though....they are not necessarily cheap to rent (location, if they see a Falang is involved, standard of accommodation & shop, ect.). The accommodation is often of a pretty basic standard and certainly usually basic Thai standard - cold shower, no aircon etc. Bedrooms are usually on the top floor - so up 2 flights of stairs.
Most of these issues can be resolved with spending a few Baht, but you need to be careful about the length & type of lease you have. Otherwise it is possible for you to increase your rent because of the improvements you have made & paid for, or you being thrown out of the nice environment you have created for another to enjoy.. :( :(

I rent a little apartment with 1 sitting room with attached a small kitchen and 1 bedroom, maybe (but not sure) they have two bedroom apartments to. You can ask them.

The place is called Lert Praserthouse, it's near the airport but on the side of the city. Same location as the Kinnaree restaurant (http://www.udonmap.com/kinnaree/).

Bob, I appreciate the heads up on that. :-k Very good point made about the type of lease as I could see myself getting caught up on something dumb like that. I am looking for something fairly central, as my lady's business is only a couple of blocks from Central Plaza and it could work out well for her too. As for the farang thing, I would definitely be getting her to do all the talking. :D

Then a shop/house sounds like a pretty good plan homer.
The only time I looked at one (it was 'idea' interest rather than serious) was at least 3 years ago. One opposite Steve's Bar but a bit farther down. They wanted 10K a month (but they did see me :D ) the 'shop fittings' were zero & the accommodation basic (I am being polite here :D ). The problem with the lease is, obviously, most Falang would prefer a long term one, but, from what TruBrit has written on here in the past, often the City only actually grant a 3 year 'temporary' planning permission on Commercial property, although it is renewable that is not guaranteed.
If TB reads is.....does this apply to shop houses as well??? & any other information/advice???
