I don't believe Oz embassies are, or should be, in the business of assisting with funerals.

My only reservation to that is if the deceased has no family (here or elsewhere) able to help.

After all, we make the voluntary decision to live in Thailand (or elsewhere), and part of that decision making process should be to consider what will happen if we die ie who will make the funeral arrangements.

Sorry,I will answer the question soon.
My bakery in Nongkai failed. So I started to make our own bread today.
Takes me a little time to figure it out,my Hamburger-Rolls don't have to be dogfeed.
But I see,some could follow me,having a nice discussion.
I just got confused with many impressions in Thailand and liked to here some other opinions.
Sorry for my terrible english,so some of this members here must failed.
Sometimes, when i sitting in my wine cellar,I answered chai rawn mak mak,
so sorry for that.I will of course not beat Miss Fat.....
Maybe BBQ?
So give me some time to translate my thoughts into an understanding english....

Jacksprat, I think you missed the point of Redbeards post that "if your own people dont care, why should the Thais". But since you mentioned the Embassy response it must be pointed out that they asked only for his Passport to be surendered immedietly and no questions asked about how, where or why one of its Citizens had died on Foriegn soil. Surely it would be appropriate for them to inquire on the Deceased part as to whether he was insured, had family back home who needed contacting or that there were any arrangments at all being made for this mans Funeral instead of leaving it to his grieving Widow who had only Married the man 24 hours previously. It must be pointed out though that 95% of the Staff at the Australian Embassy are Thai, so indeed why should they care???
