Assault on Bangkok airport security staff

Postby rct » January 12, 2012, 9:00 am

Front page story in Bangkok Post, worth a look including Youtube link.

The security staff appears very polite and courteous and smiling as he performed his important duty. Wish the TSA in the USA would be as service minded. Getting through International LAX is such an ordeal compared to the painless experience of being processed through Bangkok airport.

Assault on Bangkok airport security staff

"The security staff appears very polite and courteous and smiling as he performed his important duty. "

Agree......BUT: when the immigration official challenges the security guy, the security guy almost goes into kowtow mode, bowing profusely as though saying, "I'm so sorry to have intruded on your space....I had no idea you were such a high level official (C-7??!!)"

I'm not a big fan of security guys at the airport, or cops for that matter. But if I were the security guy there, I'd have called for the guys with the cuffs and packed the immigration official away for a few hours.......or at least enough for him to miss his important flight.

When I saw this video on tv yesterday, I was going to post a link to it on the running education thread. Why? Because as I see it, that how kids learn in school......you obey/respect authority, no matter what they say/do.

I'm so happy to see this video run viral........and I'll hope that someone someday gets to box the immigration official's ears as payback.

But why seven days to give himself up? He works at the airport, surely he has got an office there? March straight there with handcuffs at the ready . I know. Maybe every one has forgotten after a week.

A brilliant observation from the correspondent . This phase is the important one for me .

"Money and power define every social structure; there will always be phuyai and phunoi. This is fine, as long as the relationship is complemented by mutual respect, rather than blind submission to authority."

Assault on Bangkok airport security staff

I agree TB, but I also agree that in most international airports I have been to, the offender would have been arrested despite his position for assaulting an Airport worker, without any provocation.
But as this is Thailand even the authorities are paying blind obedience to the cultural hierarchy, which goes to show how deep-rooted it is . it is this which tarnishes Thailands' reputation

The week might be the way they allow time for the offender to compensate the victim, thus avoiding criminal prosecution.I bet the poor security guard lives in fear of reprisal though. Some system they have here,I try to avoid involvement!
