Ive been an asthma victim for 20 years now and my experience is that thai doctors are poorly educated about this disease. A few years back I went to Bumrungrad Hospitals allergy and asthma center and they did all kinds of tests on me and said I did not suffer of asthma....ha, ha, ha....
But back home they have all ready done tests on me and concluded that I suffer from asthma, hay fever, allergy and poor & inflamed breathing organs.
The good thing about thai doctors is that they will prescribe almost any medicine you want. So if you been to doctors in your home country or abroad have told you to take this and that medicine then you can easily find it in thailand.
As for ventoline you can easily find weaker ones at Boots. If you need stronger you need to go to a professional hospital. Ventoline one can take both morning and evening, one or two puffs. But one should be careful with ventoline since it relaxes your muscles and opens your throat. If one take more takes for example 20 puffs at the same time one will die on the spot since it will relax the muscles in the throat so much that one wont be able to breath. Asthma kills you in the oppositte way, it contracts your throat muscles too much so you cant breath.
So you need to be smart about how you use this medicine, follow doctors direction and you will be allright. Dont take more than 2 puffs per time and dont take more than 4 puffs per day. In acute situations you can take more but dont overdo it since it will lead to death.
I usally only take one puff in acute cases and waits for 5 minutes or so to feel the results of the medicine and it usually is enough. At the moment I only take it like 1-2 times per year but I used to take it daily.
As for the inflammation in your lungs you should take some other medicine. I myself prefer Pulmicort which always works for me. But you can find Symbicort which is like ("ventolin" and pulimcort) in one bottle.
This is exellent and will keep your asthma in check, just take one or two puffs in morning and/or evening. No other medicine should be needed. You can find it at AEK hospital or at the medicine shop close to Yi Soon (Ive even found it once at Boots).
It costs a bit but this is the best asthma medicine out there.
It is hugely important to keep the inflammation in the lungs at check with medicine since it will help prevent acute asthma attacks. Ventolin is only for acute attacks, that is when the throat muscles begins to cramp.
And pulmicort and symbicort will help you with the inflammation. (but as i said if you take symbicort you should not need/take ventoline.)
Symbicort I take regulary and it keeps my asthma in check.
A for other asthma medicine like Serentide etc I am a bit skeptic. Ive had huge side effects of these medicines and it almost killed me once. But some asthma patients swears by that medicine.
I dont know but read the medicine label and avoid medicine that stays in your blood for too long since if you get side effects you need to get it flushed out from your bloodstream quikly. Serentide stayed I think 2 days and I was hyperventilating and getting asthma attacks all the time over 2 days since quit taking that medicine.
Anyways, GOOD LUCK!
