Automatic Log out or Time out?

Postby JimboPSM » January 11, 2006, 8:53 am

Not sure whether the forum software has changed or if my PC has developed a capability to act on its own.

I normally have at least six windows open on my PC ( sometimes many more), one of which, of course, is the Udonmap Forum, this often results in my spending some considerable time away from some of the open windows.

Over the last few days I have found that if I return to the forum window after an hour or so away that I'm logged out of the site.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of automatic log out or time out that has been added to or activated in the forum software?

It's never happened to me before except when the server has had too many Changs and fallen over.

It's a bit of a nuisance having to log on again each time & I'm just wondering if it's happening to anyone else?

I have been logged out several times lately but there does not seem to be a pattern to it.Sometimes i have been logged out several times in the space of a few minutes and then it's fine for a few days.

Hi Jim, the default forum cookie session length is 3600 seconds (1hour).
If a user logged in and kept his/her browser open, he/she would not be logged out automatically until they had been idle (with respect to the board) for longer than an hour.

I hope this helps :D

I have been having (and still am) considerable problems, holding my telephone connection for more than 3 or 4 minutes, before it drops. I have complained to TT & T who have said they will check the line - maybe it is too noisy.

However, I just about manage to open up hotmail, check the first email and the connection has gone again., before I can reply to anything. Talk about frustrating! :x I am sorry if I haven't replied to anyone, but I haven't got to look at the forum for the past 3 days.

I've checked my connection and it's set to disconnect "never"!!!!!!

I'll give you a go with my GPRS modem next time there Arjay; it will never (or rarely  ) happen again if you get one.

Unless you have the inside track on this DSL rumour of course....in which case tell tell!!!

I think my problem has been resolved, after the second complaining phone call to TT&T. They said the line sounded noisy and would check it out. And I now seem to be able to hang in there, at the last count for 2 hours 45 minutes!! :D The fact we could hardly hear each other on the telephone helped identify the problem.

I can also download more quickly now.

Lee, think I have cured the timeout / logout problem on my PC, I think that the cookies somehow got corrupted in a dreaded blue screen event Image I had a week or so ago.

I deleted all the Udonmap cookies a couple of days ago and have had no problems since :D
