BBC to parodies British Thai Bride Business!

Guess I will need to upgrade my UBC! ouch! We american's just love british parodies, but sometime, we just don't get it!

Well yesterdays Sanook . com had an article from a London newsapaper that reported on a 75 year old guy that married a Thai internet bride of 23, got a visa, took her to England, where she promptly sued him for divorce on the grounds of, you've guessed it, non ability to give her, her conjugal rights. He has lost most of his money, his young bride and now she's going for half his house!!!
Any further comment would be superflous.

I've read via various sources that that the same thing also happens with native Brits, albeit not such a large age gap as mentioned above. In the UK if a lady lives with you for more than 3 months then you're as good as married. Then if all doesn't work out and you ask her to leave she has the rights to half of everything you have. I believe there are many women jumping on the bandwagon and making allot of money out of this. What an unfair world we live in!

Well, in america it usually takes a couple years before PBS carries it, and maybe they only pickup good stuff. I'm thinking monty python days, i guess.

By paper, sounds like it could be funny, but might be offensive to some. Comedy I see today, before I change the channel, just seems stupid, not funny, but I'm old as dirt!

Got that one beat a guy who had lived here for twelve years five months ago took his wife and daughter to America. Reason wanted his daughter to have better shools. The wife has now spilt and living with another guy in the states. It's easy to see how this can happen, we are very used to Thia women here, we were not in our home countries. There they are exoctic looking ladies, they get atttention that they have never recieved before. off they go to the greener pastures.

This guy lives on Social Security, it is going to be all he can do to pay child support much less all the other things that are about to change in his life.

It' a real shame before this is over the wife will have nothing, when her uniques wares off more then likely the new guy will dump her. Come over here for the new model. The daughter has just lost the opportunity to grow in a stable family. Can you imagine the mess that kids in at the moment in a brand new country that she knows nothing about, the only family that she has known is destroyed. What a tradgedy.

That's a depressing, bleak prospect that you've laid out, Ray. I expect that there was a fair age gap in the couple under question. But could there also have been more? I'm hoping so! It's too unsettling to think that a working relationship of such long standing could dissolve in such short order.

Obviously, we cannot precisely predict how the West will affect any of the Thai women we love when they have never before left their country. I have met a few Thai ladies my wife knows who have lived abroad in Europe, and none of them are with the gents they originally were with. So the wonder: is it the couple mix? There is also the observation that some males never could manage a successful relationship in their homeland--so why expect differently abroad, particularly if you are going to bring her back to your own country to become immersed in the culture and perhaps values that may have been anathema to your previous homegrown relationships in the first place?

And when an age gap is present, it becomes all the scarier. You are no longer unique once the two of you are back in your native land. In fact, it can be quite the 'eye opener' to a younger wife when this new relationship is juxtaposed to what worked well in Thailand. She WILL get much unaccustomed attention from males who are now commonplace and not of almost celebrity status; and she will also soon recognize that it is not any kind of norm to have such a variance in years as is often practical and generally workable back in Thailand.

But none of us can confidently know what may lie ahead until the dare is taken, and the wife introduced into the West. And that said, I honestly wish that I did not have almost four working years before me ere Retirement--it would be far more preferable to be able to relocate now to Thailand, and not have to find out what may go awry here whenever Immigration finally feels fit to allow my wife to join me. It's my own insecurity at work, most definitely, for I trust her with all of my heart. But of course, she is in Thailand. My reality here cannot possibly compare to whatever fantasy she may envision lies ahead for her in Canada.

Don't want to burst anyones bubble and am not replying to anyones post but I personally know of three Thais that married to an older gentleman only to leave them once they hit the states.

Not good at beating around the bush here. I will also say that what goes around usually comes around. On two of these girls, they have not done so good. The other one lucked out and husband died. Of cource she had a young man moved in quickly.

I will also say I know of a lot more marriages that worked rather than failed of Falang-Thai. It takes paitence to marry interacial and move someone to another country. If you expect your life to remain the same GOOD LUCK.

I will also say that the same goes on in any country and is not only Thailand. I bet if you think about it a bit you will find an April December relationship in your own community. Anna Nicole Smith is still fighting for her millions. Lets see, she was 28 and the Marshall was 91 and worth 841 million. Her stepson is older than she is.

Oh well enough said. As Garnet said if you never take the chance you will never know. Cinderella has to go to the ball sometime.

This is a subject with a great deal of meat on the bone.

I think that in the same way that we find Thai ladies more attractive, (generally speaking), than farang ladies, they in turn find us more attractive/handsome than those they have been used to. If we then take them back to our home countries, they may suddenly realise that we are not so handsome, that we are just the norm and that there are many more handsome and eligible men around, and who because they are foreign are likely to find them more attractive too.

Also, as was said above, they will realise that the age difference is more of an issue in our home countries.

I have also seen many situations where a Thai lady was only using her farang boyfriend/husband as a stepping stone to better things, with the intention of moving on. I even heard one say at her wedding party to a farang, that if it (he) didn't come through with sufficient financial support, she would get rid of him and find another.

Whilst I know that many Thais have sucessfully moved to and live in a western country and culture, I am of the opinion that it is preferable for my partner to remain in or near her home country and her family etc, than to take her away to a distant country where the culture is different, where she will inevitably feel alienated and where the weather is likely to be significantly colder and depressing.

I feel that I would prefer to live here in the warmth and friendlier environment of Thailand and for me to adjust to her culture rather than the reverse.

Those are my personal views and I accept that everyone has different circumstances and views.

I also have the same thoughts. I can retire in 2007 but I want Whean to stay here in the USA at least until she gets her permanent resident status then she can go back and forths as we please. It seems like we have been waiting so long for her visa, over a year now. At least i have a job that take me there occasionally and I earn enough vacation time that I can go there for a month at the time. With this trip in December we were together 6 times this year the shortest of which was 3 weeks. This Dec I come from the 14th until Feb 2nd, come home for 2 or 3 weeks then return for work for another 2 months. Hopefully by then she will have her visa and can return with me. However, the longer it takes for her visa the closer I get to being able to move back if she wants or I can convince her. I myself would prefer to live there and she is aware of this by my buying our farm (well I paid for it, I should at least be able to call it mine) and getting some of it ready to build a house on.

Interesting posts now is everyone sitting down the husband was 70 the new boyfriend is 63. The wife says the boyfriend is ugly and has no money. But he understands her

Truth is this guy is just saying what she wants to hear and understands nothing. How many of us really understand our Thai wives, they are not only of the female presuasion, they have a diiferent language, different culture, different foods, and a definite different way of doing things.

I think this has more to do with not letting them know they are special, then age gaps or cultural difference's. We all get complaicent in relationships a time goes along, no matter what country we are in.

My understanding is the wifes family is really upset as this guy has helped them for 12 years, but they are here and she is there.

This one had none of the earmarks of what I'm familar with, more of human nature.

Maybe a few I love you's and you are wonderful, would have went a long way.

I am now into my 3rd TW. The first we lived here in Thailand for 7 years without any major upset. Then she wanted the kids to have an English education, so off we went to Uk.Big mistake!!!The first couple of months the problem started at the pub, my mates English wives didn't like her taking good care of me, pouring my drinks, wiping my mouth, feeding me nuts etc.They got together and educated her as to whats normal in UK. The real big slammer occurred when on a Sunday afternoon two couples called at my house unexpected and found her washing my feet in a bowl, prior to giving me a pedicure. They actually remarked aloud,"we don't do like that here honey"One of my mates confessed later, his wife had told him,"We Ain't going there again, and don't think your getting me, doing that" It was down hill all the way from then on, she started going out with the girls, soon met a younger guy and it was the big heave ho for me.
Thai girls are fabulous wives but here in Thailand, not abroad. Thats my experience. I've now been married to my latest 3 years, and we're blissfully happy apart from her wanting to go and see England. My answer is always the same. I love you too much to take you there darling.
