this remark" Too bad, it's a very nice beer, but a shame we have to pay a premium price" maybe also go's
for mostly all farang owned establishments , restaurants , bars enc..., price for a big bottle chang 90baht ,dark lao beer 90baht, ( belgian beers? ) and even in some restaurants they only have singha , leo , or heineken at prices from 120-140 a bottle....which none of them i like , so i will never go back to them...
so as i am used to drinking a beer or even 2 with a meal , i end up paying more for my drinks than my food :(
one of the reasons we rarely frequent such restaurants , even the food is worth it , the drinks making it bad ....
sorry a little bit off-topic this...., so next time i will go makro and ask if one can order the beer in case it isn't in stock,
abroad this is possible, in thailand wait and see.... ;)

Don't know where you've been dining, but these prices seem on the high end for Udon. And alas, the cheapest beer you can have is always the one you drink on the sofa in your home, but Beer Lao cost 900+ per box here in Thailand, the same as Heineken. Restaurants have overhead, and are in fact in business to make money, although it doesn't always turn out that way!

well i was in makro yesterday, and since several weeks no dark lao beer available , so i asked if i can order this...
the answer was short ..no , dark lao beer is blocked ...only lager available which surely isn't worth the money :(
so i bought carlsberg instead , it is not dark but it is a welcome alternation to the few thai good beers... ;)

you write Beer Lao cost 900+ per box here in Thailand, the same as Heineken

then you get a lot value for money becasue Beer lao is a lot better than dishwater Heineken

Beer Lao is a good beer, however all the cases OT has bought in Thailand have been stale IMO. It doesn't keep well. Leo and Heineken are the same. Best to buy lager thats not too old. Chang just blows your head off so you can't really tell if its stale or not. As for Archer, that's for the rice farmers.

Here in the U.S. outside of Washington D.C. there is a large beer & wine store that sells light and dark beer lao for about 270 baht for a six-pack of bottles. However, I buy Sighn as I can purchase a six-pack of Sighn bottles for 210 baht.

TJ, why don't you just buy Budweiser because obviously your taste buds are shot anyway.

I saw both lager and dark today. The lager (899) was on the shelf, the dark (928) was in the aisle. There were about four cases of each.

This is good news (about the dark). I was there in early AM. I either missed it, or they brought it out later in the day. If someone was kind enough to grab a box of the dark for me it would certainly be worth a couple free ones, and maybe a hamburger to absorb them ;).

Several boxes of the dark available this morning (Makro). Didn't see the lager, but I wasn't looking for it either. It's never in the same place, TiT.
