Best Dinner out, less than 300baht for two!

Postby old-timer » February 3, 2010, 1:52 pm

What's the best place to have a nice cosy dinner out with your loved one, including food and drink, for less than 300baht all in?

I would rather light a firework that is placed up my rectum than hang around waiting for the free buffet to come out at Mojo's. The falangs that go out of there way to find free buffets are an embarrassment. It's always good for a laugh to watch them though.

I quite like the UD town tent market for an economical dinner out. except I don't like chang, so I give that a miss now.

Maybe give Menair's (spelling??) a try. It's a 2 storey place and food is very good and reasonably priced too.

I recomend the 'Penang Chicken Curry' ...always good whenever we have been there.

A romantic dinner for 2, including drinks, for less than 300 baht

Takes the meaning of Kee Niow to a whole new level. :D

Happy Valentines Day Mrs Timer.

Living in Ban Dung does that Jack.

The 7/11 idea that someone recommended before is not such a bad idea, I know the yellowmen falangs that stay around nakula in patters enjoy sitting at the tables outside the 7/11 there, sipping thai whiskey at 7am, however I don't like sticky rice hamburgers or 1 foot long hot dogs.

What I'm looking for is Thai food with one or two leo beers thrown in for less than 300 baht, and the place needs to be quite nice as well.

Thanks

And living in Kampala? :D

Can you get Thai food there, and do they even have 7/11s?

Perhaps you ought to take Tex's advice, and dine high on the hog under the golden arches.

As oldtimer has already observed with a keen gastronomic eye, the food stalls at UD Barza would have to be the primary contender in the nominated category! Agreed, the exclusive adoption of Chang is a negative - but its about the only one! Two sisters - Gen and OA - run/own the adjacent Isaan Foods and Coffee Princess stalls respectively. They can be found in the north-west corner immediately in front of the tables. The food is excellent - the coffee sublime - and Gen is really friendly and keen to ensure her customers are happy customers. Her English is excellent too so go along and have a bit of a natter and do try the food!!!

If its Thai food and a couple of beers your after, with nice suroundings thrown in, look no further than The Kinnaree. The menu is online. Could be an idea to check it out. Anyway, good luck with your search Old Timer.

Googled:
The best espresso in Kampala! Bancafe is one of a few places in Kampala with pretty good espresso. Comparing with other drinks, coffee is very expensive. While the bottle of imported Kenyan Tusker beer, even in the night bars, costs only 300 shillings, espresso cost 800. Bancafe offers very good and inexpensive breakfasts too. Ham and eggs costs only 3000 shillings, just over one euro.

Suggestion for Valentine's day eating out:

2 ham and eggs - 4 espresso - 2 bottles of Kenian beer
Total costs about 5.5 euro = about 250 baht

Not bad is it?

Cheers
