Best food within walking distance of Farang Row.

Postby udonjon » August 10, 2007, 4:29 am

I will be staying near the downtown shopping area across from the Farang Row of bars. I'd like to eat within a kilometer of there.
Where is a good breakfast.
Where is a good buffet.

IMO the best buffets are at Charoensri Grand and Charoen hotel. Both have a good selection of western & thai food. There's one on the corner at end of "Farang Row of Bars", never tried it but have read some poor reviews.

If you want English food then there's plenty around, just follow this tread:

For American, then there's the newly opened California Cafe. Located across from the Downunder Bar. The only other American cafe I can think of is TJ's, but that isn't walking distance.

Gotta agree that Charoensri Grand Hotel has best breakfast buffet, I became a omelet addict when stayed there last year. Their dinner buffet is also very good but think it's only a weekend offering. Charoen Hotel buffet a good one too, just a cutlet below CGH's. Tried the Thai food buffet at the corner of Farang Row and best thing I can say is it's cheap. :D

Haven't tried California Cafe (slavering over SOS image) or Irish Clock brekkies yet but high on my to-do list. Try Irish Clock's roast beef dinner on Sundays with a LARGE Tiger draft. Mmmm, some good eatin'. =P~

This just proves how different peoples tastes can be, I stay at this hotel every trip but both the TGF and myself choose to eat elsewhere even though the breakfast is free with the room booking. The food sufferes from being laid out too long, even the TGF preferred to eat elsewhere, and it's impossible to get a decent cup of tea from this place. As the TGF is not from UT she doesn't know the places to go yet, but we'll keep searching for the right place when we return in 2 weeks.

You can get the omelet cooked to order while you watch and as far as being laid out too long, depends on how fast or slow you walk to your table. I usually eat breakfast early with no complaints but if you wait until they start closing down at 10 am then probably will get some cold food. You can also get Thai-style fried eggs and Thai jok or breakfast soups fresh from the galley. Not much of a tea drinker but the coffee is fine.

Velly good point poolhawk..., i am usually late down to get a buff breaky when staying in Hotels and yes most of the foods laid out usually are showing signs of age(apart from high rent hotels)..lol, have managed to rise early a few times and the foods do improve(not talking about any specific hotel).
but i will say Every buffet spread i have visited do cook fresh to order omlettes.

Bangkok NOT Udon !!!
check out the Landmark in Bangers for a buffet breakfast(club floor lounge if poss,if not the other reasturant above it where the Riff-Raff have their's)...its the nuts.
