Last week, i discovered a great restaurant in Udon, KhaoSoiThai http://www.khaosoitai.com with dishes from Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand.

If anyone has ever visited ChiangMai, they probably know that the CM signature dish is called KhaoSoi, made with crispy and soft noodles, meat (normally chicken), coconut milk mixed with spicey sauce. Personally, i think it is one of the best Thai meals. Also this restaurant sells the famous ChiangMai sausage, flavoured with lemon grass and Thai herbs. The restaurant consists of grass huts and there is accompanying Lanna music from Chiang Mai too.
The food was excellent and ambiance very good too, and of course the bill is always very small for farang in Thailand .
It is located right at the western end of Phosri road, 300m past the large arch and the schools (see the website).

Hmm, one of the reasons i came to Udon was the bad food so i can lose weight, but i beginning to find some good places to eat here, grrrrrrrrr

I recently ate in the Bookhouse, chicken pie and chips 170bht .In my opinion it was about equivalent to any greasy spoon transport cafe back in the UK. Soggy pie and soggy chips for about 3 quid. Value for money? Well I guess so .But the best of its kind in Udon ? I hope not .

If the topic is "Best value, ur, value meals in Udon?" then hands down it's Uncle Mustache's (ลุง หนวด) Lahb restaurant next door to the mosque on Sri Chom Chern.

Lahb (beef salad), along with a variety of other beef dishes......beef soup is tops, as is his sliced grilled beef strips (เสือร้องไห้)

Just ask for NO Chilli Scorpio, they will probably laugh a little but never mind just ask for extra Garlic and Ginger that usually shuts them up ;)

OP, Do you mean value as in eating crude food for little money, or a half decent meal for a bit more.
BTW..the librarian is a diamond geezer in my book, no seriously, he and his mrs are great people, and the one time i tried the food it was good.

OT..woops nearly.. \:D/
