NEWS HEADLINE :.
Disease Control Department director warn against use of second-hand clothing

Department of Disease Control Director-General Thawat Suntharajarn asks that people refrain from buying second-hand clothing as they may cause skin diseases.

After inspecting officials' works to prevent diseases along the border area in Sa_kaew province, Md. Thawat spoke of dangers that come with second-hand clothes, which were widely available for purchase at markets in the province. He said used clothes and shoes may have bacteria and fungus that cause skin diseases, and thus he would advise that tourists buy new clothes and shoes. He also noted the new items are not so expensive.

Md. Thawat said that if it is neccessary to use second-hand clothing, for example brand-name clothings that the buyer have acquired for a good deal, he said they should be boiled for at least 10 minutes and then left out in intense sunlight for about 6 hours.

Deep freezing

Postby ttom » March 11, 2007, 11:22 pm

Just put the very dry items into a plastic back, close the back and have it deep froozen for at least 2 hours.

It's a common treatment somethimes if sterilisation isn't the first option.

It also helps perfectly well with bed bugs, fleas, or lousse contatimanted textiles.

Some bugs du survive hot invoronments but never freezing cold.

It's easy, cheap, an effective.

Cookie, I can't say it's something I'd want to try (the cockroach in the microwave). It would surely make a horrible mess when it bursts, or blows apart, which it would surely do. #-o

Somehow I wouldn't want to cook food in the microwave afterwards. The thought of it would certainly spoil my appetite.

Come to think of it, so would having microwaved someone else's secondhand socks!!!

I know the cockroach story sounds weird, but I was in a ''hospital'' employees breakroom years ago that had cockroaches in thier microwave! We were trying to get rid of them and couldn't !Someone suggested to just cook them and they should burst! We tried to no avail!!!

At the time I was shocked because those cockroaches never died

Not so weird. We were infested with "ghost" ants at my Florida workplace lunchroom. They were everyplace, including crawling all over the microwave, so tried to radiate them. Thought their little bodies were supposed to explode but didn't work. Used Terro antkiller and it was sayonara to them.

Spotted this on a cockroach Forum i was Browsing earlier....

After cooking pizza in my microwave, I opened the microwave ... and discovered a small roach ... still alive. ... is it possible that it was in the microwave ... and ... survived?

Answer: ......................

This experiment has been done often.

The microwave oven is amazingly non-uniform in its heating. That is why most of them have carousels to keep the food moving through the focus of the power.

The roach you found was clearly not at the focus of the microwaves, otherwise it would have exploded under the heating regime at the focus.

So the crafty roach will dodge round the microwave avoiding the " Hot" spots.Image
