BKK Airport - central BKK

BKK Airport - central BKK

Postby RALPHCUSENS » July 17, 2007, 5:12 am

Can anyone give me any idea, how long it would take to get from the airport to central Bkk at about 7pm on a Friday. My son is coming over for a visit, and I am trying to assertain if it is possible for him to catch the last train, [8.45pm] to Udon.

Any advice would be much appreciated #-o

Cheers, Ralph

Judging by my last visit there, I would say going INTO BKK would be faster at 7pm on a Friday than going out.

However, you never know what can happen. By the time he gets his luggage, goes through immigration and gets a taxi, 45 min or more could evaporate easily.

If it was me, I'd try for the train. If he doesn't make it, he can stay overnight and leave early the next a.m.

Thanks for the info Ricohoc, he actually is due to arrive at 6.45pm, so, I think I will take your advice, and get him to try for the train, Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Thanks again,

Ralph.

Your son could head for Don Muang train station going via the expressway direct from Suvanaphoom. It takes about 35 minutes from the main BKK train station to get to Don Muang.

Traffic is worse on a payday.

Mikem, you beat me to the punch with your post. Train 69 departs Don Muang 2125 hours but I think Ralph would have to book a sleeper ticket prior to departure and post it to his son. There is the danger of being left at Don Muang watching the red light on the rear of the train (if it is working) disappearing into the distance and then having to find accommodation in BKK.

Thank you for your suggestions, due to the fact that, one has to allow for flight delays etc, he is going to go by bus direct from the airport to udon, there is a bus that departs at 10.30pm, which should allow him plenty of time.

Thanks again

Trains to UdonThani

Postby ttom » July 18, 2007, 1:46 pm

Trains to Udon Thani stops at Dong Muang station just in front of airport (use bridge to Asia Airport express). It would be not advisable to board the train at Hua Lamphong. Due to the rush hours and weather conditions travelling time to anywhere central is unpredictable.

Do not trust the time table. Due to maintenance work and others the time table might change.

From Hua Lamphong main station to Dong Muang station the train takes around 35 to 40 min as you might notice from official timetables: www.railway.co.th/English/Time_HTML.asp

Forget the idea of buying a train ticket and jump on a train. Especially on night trains usually even the first class is often sold out. You might need to book in advance, maybe at Udon Thani station too.

You can also book any ticket at Dong Muang station if you like. If there is no ticket (seat) available, take a taxi to close by Mor Chit 2 bus terminal. Busses to Udon Thani are running around the clock.

From Suvarnabhumi to Dong Muang takes about 25 t 30 min. Busses are using the express way. There are constantly busses running. It takes sometimes a lot longer from Suvarnabhumi to downtown Bangkok.

Be aware that most but not all (international) flights are ending at Suvarnabhumi.
