BLOOD GROUPS

Postby bigwavedave » February 8, 2009, 5:08 pm

I admit i saw this idea elsewhere but what a simple solution!!!
If it is possible for lee to add a field in the sign up page why not put in your blood group??? That way if a certain group is needed urgently a quick search by Lee and the boys and we could save someones life!!!

Good idea - provided it could be kept in an area totally secure and hack proof.

Unfortunately there are too many morons out in cyberspace who, if they found out about it, would just regard it as one more thing they can mess up in their pursuit of kicks :(

good idea, in theory, but how is that going to help me, when i'm on a gurney at udon hospital

better just to let your loved ones know, so if with you, one less step, as if they actually have someone to type you, let alone have blood available. :yikes:

This was talked about when I asked all of you who were healthy enough to donate blood to go to Udon Hospital Blood Donor department, building 10 , and start to donate blood, the data base would be kept by the Blood bank here in udon and lo..........the people that need it would probably get it.
However good my intentions were it seems that again many have ignored the request and we are back onto lets set up a register.
First in order to donate blood certain criteria must be followed, donating blood on a regular basis ensures that criteria is met.
Second, due to the age of many of us, constant donation ensures acceptance by hospitals of our blood.

Third Constant donation will ensure our details are kept up to date at least every 3-4 months.

That will stop any critisim of the Thai Blood service which at best is sufficent but as I explained before lacking in funds and the wherewithal in some areas, coupled with that is the Thai nation as a whole views blood donation as something someone else does and also the fact that over 90% are Rhesus positive, us negative farangs need to be careful.
Enough said
get down to Udon Hospital and start regular donations stop suggesting things arnd start doing something positive.

Obviously not a lot of thought gone into this idea. With nearly 12,000 members, of which less than 100 are active. Of whom a lot are spread, not only around Thailand but indeed, around the world. Any emergency would entail a lot of negative searches. That is not withstanding the fact that most are anonymous and the only contact would be an email address. So its not very practical.
I think most of us have had to seek medical attention from one of the major hospitals at one time or another. This means your details , including blood group will be on their file.So the answer is simple. Just carry your hospital issued medical card in your wallet along with the credit cards. In emergency any one would be able to get all the info they want as well as checking availability of your blood type. :-s

simply have in your wallet, info in thai, next to you license, phone and blood type in emergency. as 1st thing police, hopefully there first, will check wallet for baht, then proceed to ID and info if loved one not with you in emergency and you can't verbal respond to questions. also, if on meds, even occasionally, put those on there also, so info card will avoid any adverse combination side effects, such as a simply anti biotic like cipro and a non streroid anti inflammatory as a possible convulsion catylist. this should be on top of your license, so they have to see and move to get to license. or staple to a 1000 baht note

Good idea to donate at Udon Hospital. I've never donated blood and I've no idea what my blood group is, but if my donation means helping on of you miserable old gits, then it'd be very worthwhile.

Do you get a cuppa cha after donating here?

sadly i can't give, as i take NSAID, and they have a reaction with many meds, such as a simple antibiotic like Cipro, may send you into convulsions. plus a med or 2 i may be on, i'm good for an emergency, but that's it.

marmite........donating blood is a simple, painless, relaxing affair. i used to look like a junkie, every other month, get my little munchies and listen to my music while the others watched soaps. talk with the cuties. though i gave to the local, not the international name, which escapes me, been that long. as that blood stayed local and wasn't sold at a profit. i'm pretty hard to hit, no stress, and meaty arms, so hard to find, they rarely missed. pay attention to who has good aim, and ask for them next time, as once in a while, if they miss, they might hit something sensative, happened twice to me, a bit umpleasant for a week, but that was very rare for the number of time they hit.
