Boxing Manny Pacquiao v Shane Mosley

Postby BobHelm » May 8, 2011, 11:55 am

Thai channel 7 have just finished showing the Shane Mosley v Manny Pacquiao fight life.

Quiet opening by both. However when anyone hits the Packman it seems to have little effect, whereas his punches seem to have an impact.
Mosley went down in the 3rd. and rather had to hang on for the rest of the round. He still looked effected in the 4th. but got through it. The 5th. & 6th. were fairly even as far as punches were concerned but Pacquiao always looked like his would cause damage while Moseley's looked more for point scoring. Towards the end of the 7th. it looked like the culmination of punches were starting to have an effect and he was slowing. Mosley stared the 8th. well enough but could sustain it & after a minute was back pedalling for the rest of the round & getting caught far too often.
Manny caught Mosley with a couple of good shots towards the end of the 9th. but he remained on his feet. However there only looked like 1 man was going to win it by then.
Manny went down in the 10th. It was a pretty stone certain push/trip, but the referee gave him a 8 count. He smiled all through it but it upset his pride a little & he went after Mosley & caught him more than once. The 11th. also saw Mosley back tracking throughout as Pacquiao looked to find the punch to finish it. Although he caught him Mosley was quick enough to avoid getting caught seriously. The final round followed much the same pattern, with Mosley looking to impress the judges for a minute & then taking punishment for two.
The fight ended with Pacquiao looking like he could comfortably do another 12 rounds.

I think the cards said 119 to 108, 119 to 108, 120 to 107. they were all seriously in favour of Manny Pacquiao that is for certain...

Good read Bob. Unfortunately I missed this match since I had to do other less important things. Do you know if there will be a re run and if so, what channel?

Not sure at all sorry Captain.
I stumbled across it rather luckily right at the start as I was channel hopping.
Might be on UBC but can't see any of the cable channels showing it.

I love watching good fighters in competitive matches.I would have watched this fight if I had stumbled on it,but had absolutely no interest in watching a great fighter at his peak, fight a great fighter way past his prime.

In a sense I am happy for the fact that Shane getting a good payday ,as he gave much to the sport, but competitive wise, fights like this are a sham!

Shane has not looked good in his last few fights,it is time he retired!

There is only one competitive fight out there for Manny, but I guess Merriweather doesn't want to put his unblemished record on the line!

Would agree with much that you say Stan. I was disappointed to read that Mosley said his loss had nothing to do with age at the end interview. It did & I hope he now puts his feet up & retires & not carries on.
Realistically he never looked like winning from about 2 minutes in & it was all about damage limitation - not a thing any boxer should go into a fight worried about!!

On the Mayweather front. I don't entirely agree with your thoughts. I think he would have been willing to fight Pacquiao if the drug testing issue was resolved.
I think he had a genuine fear that it would have been impossible to defeat the Packman because he was taking illegal substances to increase his resistance & endurance. Personally I do not think that his teams' request for random drug testing during training was an especially onerous one for any drug free athlete. The Pacquiao team reason for refusal was hardly a convincing one to anyone.
As it turns out it looks like Mr. Mayweather has a rather more serious battle on his hands, against The United States' courts system.

Have to agree Bob I cant see anyone taking Manny's belt now or in the future our best Ricky Hatton was destroyed and sent into retirement by him, he reminds me of a young Marvin Hagler who I remember retiring Alan Minter.
