BP will be paid $250million (£161million) by the maker of the blow-out preventer that failed during last year’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The oil giant has agreed a deal with contractor Cameron International, which is not an admission of liability by either party, to settle all claims between them.
BP will apply the payment to the £12.9billion trust set up to meet claims resulting from the disaster, as well as the cost of natural resource damages. It has so far paid out about £4.82billion.
BP has settled with its Macondo well partners MOEX and Anadarko, as well as with Weatherford, maker of the float collar used, but remains in dispute with two of the biggest companies involved, Transocean and Halliburton.
