british war pension

I could probably find the answer to my question in here somewhere, but I dont have the time at the moment to search..

My father passed away last week, and I am left to tidy up his affairs. He was ex British Army, and ex RAF. Am I right to believe that his widow will now receive a portion of his war penison, and that I will have to contact the powers that be in England to change things over to her bank account.??

I am sure that the MOD pensions dept would answer all and any questions, judging by your comments provided that they were aware of his marriage and the name of the lady, I think you are right but do not take what I say fro granted. They have devious ways these days to avoid paying out for anything.

thanks for that Bob. Its all abit confusing at presence until I get my head around it all..the only true contact details I had I gave to the lawyer last week, but he wont do anything until my dads death certificate is forthcoming from the government...seems I might just go and get the papers back so I can make moves now..dont want the pension to keep going into my dads bank account now hes gone, only to have to fluff around and repaid it later so to speak..old Ma as his widow would get something, so I guess they want bank details and the like..anyway onwards..thanks again

thanks to the members replies, I have been able to find the name, and address for contact in regards UK War Disablement Pensions, or UK Veterans help. The agency has changed its name to;

Service Personnel & Veterans Agency
email: veterans.help@spva.gsi.gov.uk
internet: www.veterans-uk.info
Tel (overseas) 0044 1 253 866043..

Thanks Khun Paul, and Bob for getting me on the right track.

Many thanks Aardvark for going out of your way to say some nice words regarding my dads passing, and here we are but mere internet chat buddies. Says alot about the calibre of man you are. Much appreciated matey.

As to the email address I gave above regarding UK War Veterans, I tried to use it yesterday and it never worked, yet recent documents of my fathers have those contact details on the letterhead. Now I will have to ring them urrrrrr..

From my understanding, I may have been alittle off target in thinking that the widow of a Veteran, on a UK War Disablement Pension, would receive disbusments after the Veterans death..There is allowance for funeral expenses to be claimed under certain conditions, but the widow would not receive much else me thinks..not that that is my main goal here. The goal is to just let SPVA know me old Da has lowered the Colors for the last time, and to stop further payments...
