I think the fbi had already informed mom as to my location...lol. Certainly the picture in home town paper did. I spent my summers in deep east Texass, grandma had no mercy on the chickens when Sunday dinner came around. I still remember the smell of burned feathers. Cursed rooster used to attack me every time I went to get eggs. Oh how I hated him. That wasn't just living in the rural 50's it was like stepping back to the early 40's, maybe 30's. No hot water, ice box, crank telephone-"hello Mabel", crank up "victrola", yellow meated watermelon on the porch as we "watched the world go by" on the highway. I loved it. A freedom I've never known since. Walk the dirt road to town, one mile. Visit a real drug store, like you see in the movies, read a few comic books, always buy a couple, I think 5 or 10 cents. "That's Judge Ray's grandson". Get a few worms walk the railroad to a stock tank, catch a few catfish on cane pole. They had their own honey bees, bisquits the size of a plate that floated on air, thick slice rind on bacon, delicious food. No grits. Yea I know, the mind remembers what is best most of the time...lol. No grits. I'll try a bit of Dennis/Jun's grits if I'm there and somebody offers. They have the best food as far as I'm concerned in town.

OK I'm buyin' just due to your excellent writing style sir! Better than a David Lynch film... I'll spot you a beer or two or whiskey or some such as well. \:D/

I see it's college football season already, -been a million years since I caught a game. -Dennis how's your TV doing for football these days, I have only Home Cable so have no idea, but sure would be nice to catch a game, or even a baseball game while snacking on some grub -it's cheeseburger n' fries [& root beer?] w/ a side order of GRITS time...

Thank you, I'll take you up on that offer, and return the favor. I can get the games on internet, live, free but too often it isn't the time of day I want to be up, 0200. Same with NFL, night games not too bad, around 0600/0700 here.

No good news here. I haven't checked the True Visions website yet about NCAA games, but the word from someone who phoned them says the NFL season has not been secured either! 8-[ Preseason games are already in progress. We may have to fall in with the rest of the masses and learn the rules of soccer. [-( So far, I do know biting is not allowed. :-"

Only a couple servings of Split Pea and Ham soup left. It turned out pretty good. And Shado, no milk or cream in ours either, from the Emeril Lagasse recipe.

We're in the market for a new coffee maker. Ours died yesterday. Like most of everything else here, a very short lifespan. Any suggestions on where to find a reasonably priced one? We don't need one of those 30,000 baht jobs!

... is what a nice Dutch family wrote about our place. The gentleman was born in Thailand and adopted as a young child by a family from the Netherlands. Now an adult, married, and father of 2 teenagers, he wanted to bring his family to the area he was born. Very charming family. They came in twice before continuing to Chiang Mai. They also wrote the following about us on another website:

To those who check our posts for spelling errors every day, I'm not responsible for in errors in the above, only copied and pasted. ;)

Reminder: CLOSED MONDAY AND TUESDAY every week. Will be shopping for new coffee maker tomorrow. 8)

Breakfast burrito was good as always, thanks. Wish I could have made it for the split pea, but my, well I thought it was mine, truck has been in use and I've been stuck at home. At least that gave me the opportunity to make some Nuevo de Mexico del Norte style red chile. Hatch extra hot red. From the batch I can expand to enchiladas, northern New Mexico style, taco's etc. This is NOT Tex-Mex. Just course ground pork, a chile roux, a bit of garlic and that is it. Doesn't sound exciting until you taste, but may not be to everybody's taste. Up in the mountains you could have with or without beans, pour over the beans. Tortillas of course, fresh made. I'll bring you a sample, small....lol. Hey, even the wife who is not particularly fond of farang food likes it. Put over rice actually pretty good. It is New Mexico hot. I'm getting my 'touch' back. See you next week.

Sgt---

If you need a taxi to Bubba's, I might (for a large fee) be willing to help you. LOL

The old cigarette commercial in the USA "I'd walk a mile for a Camel" comes into play. Maybe you would walk a few miles for Jun's split pea soup?

Just joking with you. Hope June makes more soup for you.

I might think about the taxi, although as much as I need the exercise, I'll pass on the walk. Jun is a good cook, I'll take the taxi if necessary...lol. Wait, I bought the truck so I wouldn't have to take a taxi anywhere anymore. I'll just have to have another talk with her. I'm sure she will understand this time...lol. ](*,) ](*,)

Fret not, sgt. home delivery is now available! A new business in Udon has been referred to us with very high recommendations of their service. Their facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Udon-Del ... 5592739598. If you need one of our menus we can email to you. Jun can also make SOME special order items not on the menu for home delivery also, i.e. SOS. Some things will be delivered separated, for example to keep bread from getting soggy. I would suggest putting special requests in writing to them to avoid any disappointment. Example, Cheeseburger with only pickle and tomato.

They do charge a small fee for their service of course. Advertised as 59 baht, and up, depending on number of stops and total kilometers driven. Call or email them for more precise info.

This is a new service, so we will be closly monitoring results and any and all feedback is encouraged.

Thanks for bringing in some of that good stuff. It was, well, kick A$$!!! Jun was really tired last night so I had it along with a couple of those little 35 baht frozen burritos I get from Villa. Turned an average dinner into an exceptional one. Maybe YOU should open a place specializing in some great southwestern U.S. cuisine, which as you say, is not "Tex Mex".

We have an opening for one player in our Friday morning card game. The guys usually play Hearts, but other games are always an option. Play is usually from around 9:30 to 1 or 2 PM. This is NOT a bunch of guys boozing it up all day, as most go to pick up their kids from school after play. Drop your car off at Beyond Car Care for a wash, feel free to pick up some of the pastries and bring them in here if you like. You can have some coffee with them (from our new coffee maker). And remember the American way is never a charge for refills on coffee!

A fresh batch of BBQ pulled pork is going in the slow cooker tonight and will be fresh and ready tomorrow.

Currently I'm having a brain freeze on what to have as a special this weekend. Any requests?

Come join us!

Dennis, I thank you for those kind words. You should have eaten some of the cooking of my long time friend Gomercindo Francisco Cristobal Duran, AKA Homer, mom's cooking. When I stopped by their house, I ate. Mrs. Duran, Jose, would not take no for an answer and you did not want to incur her anger, just the look alone was enough. Everybody, certainly including me, loved that lady. The stove was fired up and the tortillas started coming. Pretty much the same in all the Spanish homes up in the mountains. What little I learned, I learned from them. Homer was the best 'camp cook' ever. Loved it when he was the cook on an Elk hunt. The man was/is a genus with cast iron. I'm glad you enjoyed. Personally, aside from the fact there wouldn't be much if any demand, I'm too lazy to ever want a place, except to lay my head at night...lol.

Hey pulled pork sounds good. See ya'll soon.

... our fabulous Macaroni Salad!

We've had numerous requests for it, now it's ready to serve.

Jim, it has less mustard.

Paul, it has more pickles.

Jeff, it has less sugar.

Dennis, it has less onions.

Everybody has an opinion on how things should taste. Now, I'm wondering if we still have the yummy macaroni salad that many people were eating, then taking two more orders to go! The original recipe we used was an old Amish one. It called for 3/4 cup of sugar, which we cut in half on the previous batches. We'll just have to see what opinions we get on this round.

WORLD CHAMPION Seattle Seahawks vs Green Bay Packers in progress!

Come join us!

I just tested the delivery service and it worked great. I've been wanting to try some of Alberto's Ravioli, so I ordered 2 orders, planning on saving one for later, but ate both. I ordered via messaging on the delivery service's FB page. They responded in about 10 minutes and phoned for more info. Everything went smoothly. Here again is their link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Udon-Del ... 5592739598
