Burma General Elections tomorrow

Postby BobHelm » November 6, 2010, 1:13 pm

Well I don't think anyone really sees these elections as anything but the current Army personal (in charge of running the country for many years) converting their status to elected officials.
This will mean that many countries & companies will be soon rushing into a new 'democrat' Burma to exploit its resources without world condemnation.
Sadly money talks & many of the countries in the region have been quietly trading with the old Burma for years.
It will certainly do little to stop the rush of hot money into the area either.
There is an interesting article on ethnic minorities in Burma & their (not very exciting) expectations under the new constitution.
Bleak outlook for Burma's ethnic groups

I have only just seen this...sort of related...
Burma hit by massive net attack ahead of election

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11693214

The attack, which is believed to have started on 25 October, comes ahead of closely-watched national elections on 7 November.

Mr Labovitz said that he did not know the motivation for the attack but said that analysis of similar events in the past had found motives that ran the gamut "from politically motivated DDoS, government censorship, extortion and stock manipulation."

He also noted that the current wave of traffic was "significantly larger" than high-profile attacks against Georgia and Estonia in 2007.
