Bus to Nong Khai

Postby rtpman » February 25, 2010, 10:46 pm

I understand there is a bus station in Udon Thani. Anyone know what the cost is for going to Nong Khai?

Thanks

The last time I went the bus was about 40 baht...alternatively you can go by train which is 11 baht...both take about an hour. I would suggest the train is easier because the station is nearer to where you will be staying. The bus goes from the bus station over the other side of udon which is quite a way from the central areas...happy travelling :D

I believe the A/C bus from the downtown station to the NK bus station is 50 baht!

Buses do also go from the central station to NK. Not as frequently as the downtown station & most are fan rather than A/C.

That is true rtpman.
Which to use really depends on what you want to do in NK when you get there.
The train station is not too far from the friendship bridge - but too far for most to attempt walking it.
The bus station is far nearer the centre of NK but so a bit of a distance from the bridge - although tuk tuks waiting to rip you off will abound at both!! :D

Haha Bob, I like your comment on this one... however, the sure way not to get ripped off is get out of the bus at Tesco's NK and take a tuktuk for..... 30 baht! Done many times, always the same pricing

Jim, if (as you mentioned in pm) you want to explore Vientiane do like me: take the 40 baht bus from Central Udon busstation, get out at NK Tesco, take a tuktuk to the bridge 30 baht ;) get out of Thailand, cross the bridge on the shuttle 20 baht, get your Lao visa, pay in US$ and take a taxi to Vientiane 300 baht. Good luck!

I will be in Udon the coming week, will send you pm, we might be able to have a couple of beers together.

Cheers
Joe

Is there a bus that corresponds to the late evening flight into Udon?

Or a shuttle service from the airport?

I'm not sure about evening buses to NK bumper - but I would think that there probably are.
The shuttle bus used to run to NK as I can still remember 747man having a few problems with it as they would not take him to his place just outside NK.
Maybe he can just us an update on the current best way??

Bob, The Shuttle ( Minibus ) runs from UTH Airport connecting with every arriving flight, goes to NK but wont take you ( IF you are Farang ) any further than their NK Office,Best get out at Tescos NK,And get a tuk tuk, either that or pay 800 baht in taxi meter from Airport to wherever you happen to live in NK or the outskirts......I Dont use the shuttle anymore because of the probs I had last time, I get a friend to pick me up now at the airport......

I have been in this bus a more then a few times, and yes sometimes it is stopped by the police, but when it happened they didn't even bother to check me or other farangs in the bus. So I don't think they are looking for "illegal" farangs (what ever that may be).
