Business related to foreign retirees in Thailand

Postby peachtnl » November 21, 2010, 4:51 pm

Hi,

I'm a university student in Thailand, and doing an assignment for a marketing class.
The following video is planned to be a viral video for promoting our business.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unxyF6zt ... r_embedded

The business here is an in-house senior care service, focusing on foreign retirees in Thailand. However, the business doesn't exist in reality so I hope you don't consider it as an advertisement. Any feedback about the video would be appreciated. Thank you so much. : D

peachtnl,,,,,,, My comment is neither negative or positive, but I wondered if you interviewed a wide range of potential clients or customers to establish the requirements of the services you would provide? (I do understand this is for an assignment)

In the U.S. we would say you would be "shooting in the dark" if you attempt to set up a business or a marketing campaign without proper client/customer input or requirements.

P.S. Maybe a "viral video" on the internet is not really the avenue to reach older senior citizens of any nationality. I don't think that they use that venue as much as younger people... just my humble opinion,,,,,

Good luck,,, LL

If you're 'targeting' foreign retirees, I'd suggest using a foreigner in your video.
Rather than use a scene out of The Exorcist, why not film the backside of a foreigner in a wheelchair trying to navigate his/her way around a neighborhood? Or the backside of a Thai helping the backside of a foreigner in a wheelchair prepare a meal in his/her kitchen?
There's a sizable elderly foreigner population in Thailand. I've known several who could use such a service....2 stroke victims, two Alzheimer's, several advanced cancer patients, and a few who simply cannot do all the simple things required in life at an advanced age. Your 'model' has more merit than another bar/restaurant catering to the foreign population. But your 'viral' video needs professional help.
Good luck with your studies.

Typical simple Thai humour, that's not necessarily a negative, but Thai humour (culturally speaking) is always kept simple. As you would be marketing towards Foreigners then humour is still an OK way to go but it would have to be a better more thought out script, plus would it really take much effort to dig up an old foreigner somewhere to play the part of the old codger? I'm sure that'll win you extra points come evaluation day.

Gotta be honest, I first thought the little girl was having nightmares because her foreign step-dad comes to visit her in the night, very sick feeling until I realised where you were going with it, and that she was playing the foreign 'Old-git'

Well,I am an old retiree and I don't understand your video at allI certainly agree that if you are going to target a population, you should have someone from that group in your video always enjoying the benefits of your business. There should be a list of benefits thay might compel a potential customer to show an interest in your business!

Maybe the OP can take some tips from this well-made video for a senior home care service in Austria. By the look of the attractive blonde health care worker, it makes me think about retiring on Austria. I would really look forward to my semi-daily bath.

Judging by the way they ostensibly look after the aged here any update to their current system would be advantageous, but as with many things here, they do the bacground work but fail to implement it. I know of many local Govt officals who have gone on fact finding tours of other countries , enjoying themselves. Come back here, decide it is too expensive and forget it. but the working holiday was great they say. UMMMMM

Thank you all of you so much for the opinion. :D
I have done a certain amount of research prior to the business plan writing.
I agree that I should use real foreigner in the video, but I really can't find one. :(
I'll discuss with my group members again to improve our assignment.
Thanks again!
