Business Visa - 4 Minutes !

Postby Librarian » December 10, 2010, 6:13 pm

did you know Cardiff has a Thai Consulate ?
its 45 minutes after you go over the bridge from Bristol -

my appointment was 10.15am , i walked out at 10.19am with a Multiple Entry Business Visa ! now that is service for you

i highly recommend Cardiff Consulate .

Librarian -

also , many of the arabic airlines ( plus Eva ) offer around 27-30kgs of hold luggage as opposed to the normal 20 kilos . Uk to Thailand isnt so bad but the final leg from BKK - Udon , you need economy plus excess weight fees .
if you fly Business Class on Thai Airways , you get 40-50kg of weight allowance plus the extra comfort for 4500 baht.
the point i,m trying to make is its just as cheap to fly business from BKK to Udon rather than go economy and pay excess baggage charges :D

Librarian,

Yes if i know i am over weight (Luggage not my good self) then I will always fly business class on Thai. However, when i tried once and the business was full I got put on economy and as I had tried to pay for business they let me past with 3 cases totalling easy 50kg without one baht in compensation.

Try that on BA, Air France or KLM and you will get laughed at. They can actually charge more for excess baggage than the price of your ticket. I always try and fly on Emirates as there no hassle policy suits me fine.

I think the lady 'Jenny' who works at the Thai Consulate in Cardiff is well known amongst many SW based guys for her swift handlinhg of all visa issues.

A well respected and efficient office.

I have been in Thailand for over 13 years and I have never heard anything negative about the dealings with the Thai Consulates in England,I have never been there, but ,in the past,I heard, many times about Hull and Birmingham, now,Cardiff!
It makes me wonder about the thinking and manners of these people versus Thai consulates elsewhere. Why is there a different mindset or is the difference a reflection on the applicants elsewhere,or a perception of them by the Consulate staff? :-s

The Embassy itself in London has a bit of a reputation for not being very visitor friendly Stan but I think that is maybe just in comparison with the Consulates.
The 3 you mention all have a good reputation for being helpful to anyone that requires a visa to come to Thailand. I have only used the Hull Consulate by post because that was the first one I stumbled on when searching for 1 & they have always been 100% efficient & helpful.
The Consul at Hull has been in charge for nearly 30 years now & I think that probably helps. They will answer an e-mail question promptly and offer sensible advice.

Jet Airways (one of the cheapest about £480) 35kilos economy + 7 Kilos cabin if you travel from the UK, Meter Cab at Swampy to Udon 7,000bht door to door no wait - You gotta haggle with Cab Driver for the deal.

Maybe it only depend the necesary documents you can show them up on arival in the consulate? When i aply fore a visa at the Thai consulate in Antwerp, i pick-up my visa the day afther aplying

But 4 minutes fore a Multiple Entry Business Visa?

Could it be Liberian, That you have aply fore a renewal, or maybe you dit all the paperwork before and the 4 minutes was only to pick-up the pasport with visa?

Just a quistion as a non English speaking person.

Frans.

Not at the UK Consulates Frans. This is a quote from the Hull Consulate website..

Applications in person are usually processed within 30 minutes of arrival.

Seems i live in the wrong country Belgium and have to move out to England. Maybe i can request fore a asylum there.

With the British social welfare money the will give me, and the easy going way to aply fore a Thai visa, I could have a wonderfull time here in Thailand ;-)

Thank you fore the fast reply BobHelm.

Good luck on the move frans. :D I am not sure if there is much of a Belgian ex-pat community in the UK though. If you were from Eastern Europe or even farther afield then you probably would not even notice that you had left your home country as far as amenities, shops & signs were concerned. :D :D

It looks like the delay in the visa turn around is a Embassy v Consulate thing, rather than a Country one. The Thai Embassy in London has this on its' web site..
It takes two working days to process the visa at the Embassy.

So I can understand why people are happy to use the Consulates scattered around the country rather than going to the Embassy.

Going by the experience of the Perth consulate (where the hon. consul also occupied the position for many years), you had better hope he doesn't retire soon.
