BUYING MICROSOFT PROGRAMS

I am assuming that you are concerned that you may be buying a pirated copy bubbles.

If so I would suggest that you actually buy from some one like Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Office- ... B0036Z0NW6
although, of course, there is then the chance that you will be hit with customs duty on delivery.
As you can see it is not a cheap product to buy (385 USD, over 11,500 baht).
It is not available to buy directly from Microsoft unless you are a 'volume' (business) purchaser.
That & its' expense is, undoubtedly, why so many people download illegal torrent versions for free, & there are plenty of versions available over the internet, not that I am suggesting that you do that as it is certainly illegal.

I would, however, strongly suggest that you look at & consider Libre Office.
http://www.libreoffice.org/
It is, legally, absolutely free & open source software which means that there is also huge numbers of free additional systems & programs also available for it.
Except for a few specific details it is almost identical to Microsoft Office.
I have noticed that it does lack some of the subtle features available with Microsoft Access for example & suspect that the same is probably true in the other products, but for general use it is pretty indistinguishable.

Libre Office grew out of Open Office which is owned by Sun Microsystems. When Sun was bought by Oracle many of those working on Open Office were concerned that Open Source software & Oracle would probably not be a good fit, longer term. They split away from the Sun project & rewrote the software to become LIbre.
Open Office is still available for free from Sun.
http://www.openoffice.org/
Although all the big Linux distributions that used to include it have now moved towards Libre.

...or you could simply buy direct from the Microsoft Store and download it.

http://www.microsoftstore.com

...or you could buy a Technet subscription and get everything retail for $199. Great if you have multiple PCs and/or upgrade when new releases come out, anyway.

Why buy MS Office? You can download Open Office developed by Sun Micro Systems for free. If you feel guilty you can make a contribution. \:D/

While Open Office is a fairly decent substitute for the casual user or a relatively serious user sharing and collaborating with other Open Office users, there are many things it simply fails at compared to MS Office. Especially if one is sharing or collaborating with other MS office users. I won't list them as it would be laborious. Anyone who does not know already is not a serious MS Office user.

Quote Jing Jing: "Why buy MS Office?"
Simple, Open office simply does not have the tools that I require. As Khondahm states in the above post, if you are a serious computer user, will find Open Office a simplistic tool. If all you want to do is word process and keep telephone lists in a pissy little spreadsheet, fine. If you want to do some serious work, then, No!

Try Libre Office bubbles...
As I said before, it is free, so will cost you nothing & any documents that you create can be saved in Microsoft Office Format if you so wish & eventually decide to reward Mr. Gates with cash.

Unless you wish to create business systems to be used by others then Microsoft is an expensive overkill for 90% of the people that use it.
If you are in the 10% that rufus & KHONDAHM discuss then I doubt if you would be asking such a question on UdonMap as you would already have a free copy of Office 2010 in your possession... :D :D

The OF program is not a note pad program but a fully functioning mirror of MS Office.

www.openoffice.org/ -

A multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, free to download, use, and distribute.

Go ahead and pay tribute to the King of Redmond.

It is a decent substitute for MS Office, but compatibility is only half the battle. For example, many integrating products used in the business environment call MS Office to do things like automagic data exports. Many simply will not work with the open source substitutes. That's just one example, but a dealbreaker for many.

You are correct KHONDAHM, that is where I found weaknesses in OO.
With MO you can create a spreadsheet & that can be linked into Access as a table. You can use Access to manipulate the data & export it back to the original spreadsheet or even create a new spreadsheet with Excel Graphs. Or you can work on the spreadsheet which can automatically update the table in the Database.
Excel is great for doing smaller number mathematics functions & is a wizard with Graphs. It is not very user friendly for things like data entry & data validation.
Access is far better at multiple manipulations & bulk updating. The user interface that can be created is excellent. The graph package sucks.
So if you want to manipulate data & stick it onto a presentation pack MO is undoubtedly the way to go.

Libre have recognised that & are trying to fix the ease at which data can be passed through the suites....they are not their yet...
However if you wanted something that was just spreadsheet based, or just a data base then it is smaller & slicker than MO.
