Canoe shop?

Postby neeemu » April 9, 2011, 5:30 pm

Was just wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that sells canoes in Udon? I don't fancy the wooden Thai fishing boats they use in the lakes that are almost submersed with just a 50-60kg Thai fella in, I want something to carry two people but is narrow enough to use by myself and also preferably plastic to take home when I've had my outdoor fun!
Cheers

There's a 'plastic' shop on the Khonkaen Hwy, probably no more than 500m past the ring road intersection as you're heading toward Khonkaen, on the left hand side. I've seen plastic canoes out sitting out front of the shop.

Cheers for that, I'll have a look. I'm sure I've seen them somewhere before but can't remember where it was!

Around the corner from Big C, they've got all kinds of "plastic" (or is it PVC) products.

Hi,
Went to the place pap. mentioned. Took my mate to check the prices. The big one, the biggest i could see, was priced at 120,000B. Had everything but engine and trailer. Very nice boat. To big for him to operate alone. So he got a smaller one, with a good beam, which is ideal for what he wants, and made a trailer from old mini wheels. He is only about 20 metres from the water and won't be taking it any other place. The boat was made of fibre glass with a gel coat, and not PVC. He's over 6 foot tall and weighs over 100K. The cost of this boat was 20,000B. This was for the bare boat, he had to buy oars and all the fittings including cleats etc.. He got one of the motors with a long shaft, about 4 or 5 HP. Outboards like back home are no good because of all the weeds and muck close to shore. Also very shallow in places. Will block a outboards cooling system. The lake he uses it on is about 4 to 5K long. The motor he got cost him 6,000B new, without shaft and prop. so i don't know price with shaft and prop..
If you want one to suit yourself, why not think about a alluminium one. Can get one built to what you want. For a F.G. one you need to make a mould and as this will be a one off, can be costly.
