Car Insurance Policy - In English

Postby Jello » March 4, 2010, 2:48 am

I'd like to talk to a insurance agent or broker in Udon who speaks English and can provide a policy written in English.
Any recommendations?

I'd suggest Viriyah Insurance. The Head Office is on Tahan Rd, sort of opposite the Army Hospital. They did have people with fair English, although staff change. I have an English version of my insurance policy, also a guidance booklet. I really wouldn't make too much sense of it otherwise! Worth remembering that, if you agree to some 'excesses', you can knock down your premium quite a bit.

I've done business with Viriyah's Bangkok branch for 13 years, 3 different trucks......the foreign relations department speaks excellent English, they provide policies in English, and, although I've never had a claim with them, I've know others who have and they had no problem dealing with them over the phone.
Several years ago I thought about changing over to the Udon office. At that time, the people in the office could not speak English and didn't seem interested in helping. Maybe they've changed.

Viriyah's number in Bangkok is 02-641-3219

We will shortly be opening an insurance office in Udon Thani.

We specialise in insurance for foreigners within Thailand, and cover most sectors of the insurance marketplace, including:
Health/medical, Car, Motorbike, Travel, Business cover, Home/house/apartment/condo contents & buildings cover and Vehicle breakdown.

All insurance policies will be issued in English language.

There is still a lot to be done though, website and office have all yet to be completed. I would like to put a date of around 2 weeks for the opening.

Feel free to pm or email (aainsure-udon@hotmail.com) me your requirements or what help you need, but I can't guarantee that I will be able to help you immediately.

Will these be legally binding AAInsurance??
The reason I ask that most English language issued 'policies' issued in Thailand are for information only. If there is any discrepancy between the English language & Thai version of a policy then, legally, the Thai version always takes precedence..

You are 100% correct Bob, the English policies are translations from the Thai and obviously in a Thai court of Law the ‘Thai’ is what they take – the same as any other document in Thailand. Note, this also applies to all other countries in the world not just Thailand. It is just the fact that the translations must be as accurate as feasibly possible, so therefore, on a motor policy, if you have an excess, you will know about it.

We have a number of underwriters Aardvark, they include:
AIG, AXA, Bupa, Global Benefits Group, April Medical, LMG, MSIG, Pacific Cross, QBE and Thai Health.

Thanks for the enquiries.

Insurance Policy - In English

Postby Jello » March 23, 2010, 6:01 pm

Thanks for the recommendations.
Viriyah and Squire would not insure my car above a class 3 policy because it's over 10 years old.

I bought a class 2 car insurance policy with AXA insurance through AA insurance brokers. The premium was 9,600 and covers the car value at 300K, 3rd party death/medical 1 million each, property damage 1 mil., myself and passengers 100K each, 200K bail bond and a roadside assist package.

I'm currently looking at buying a 2nd class motorbike insurance policy with BT Insurance Company and Personal Accident Insurance with ACE Insurance Company.

Has anyone had any experience making a claim with either of these companies?

Interesting. With my insurance due very soon, I could be in the same boat.
I suppose that would follow with Viriyah telling me that my car was more an accident risk as it aged.
But for years, I've never been able to comprehend why my comprehensive premium didn't go down (in spite of inflation excuse) as my car got older and its' value as e.g. a write-off, fell. I've had full no-claims bonus for years, transferred from UK.
