Why don't you start with 1 or 2 cows.
You already admit that you don't expect a return.
Get two and see what the family can do with them.
If they show promise, invest more later.
If not, loosing two is better than six.

Already a done deal. Probly could of dropped to 2-3 cows, but dad wanted 6.

This is so true. We have dealt with it many times. Now that we have been here going on five years my wife has come to this conclusion also. Both of us get frustrated when we see the "Easy come - Easy Go " attitude. They refuse to take responsibility for decisions and actions.
