Chaing Khan

There was an ad on this site about Sams Place and I clicked on it. It is in Chaing Khan. Looks like a really nice place. Anyone have any input on this.

Did you mean Chiang Khan Brian? If so its about 50 or 60km north of Loei, on the banks of the river. It's a beautiful spot on the bend of the river, small mountains on the other side in Laos. For a circular tour you can then make your way back down towards NongKai as discussed in another thread

Recommend staying at Loogmai GH, excellent place on river, nice view, clean and quiet, very nice owners. loogmai@thaimail.com 09-210-0447. nice little restaurant right across the street for banana pancakes and coffee. Both GH and restaurant is a must stop for our daughter, new friends of owners loving children.

have stayed there couple times and probably will return next month for visit.

Thanks for the input. It looked like a nice place and now know I need to visit there. It might be a bit crazy but I do like the Nam Mae Kong. One of my goals is to make it down the river. It might be a dream but will continue to dream.

Not sure about that one but earlier this year I stayed at The River Guest House. Rooms 5/700 bht . Very clean, owners are both teachers and can speak some English . Terrace overlooking the river and right in the center of the strip .

Loogmai Guest House, 112 Chai Khong Rd. Soi 5 (☎042 822 334), is modern and chic. The owner is an abstract artist and, together with his wife, has created one of the best designed guest houses in the northeast. There are only 3 rooms, but each one is spectacular. All rooms with fan. Small rooms 300฿; single room with private bath 400฿.
FWIW: The pronunciation is more like: Look Mai
This link from July 2011 shows it's still in operation:

Parrot's review is spot on. We always go to the Loogmai (named after their daughter "Mai"!)
If you're booking in advance try to get the large, upstairs room with the triple aspect view of the Mekong .. brilliant.
Enjoy

Lest I be accused of plagiarism, the Loogmai Guest House review was simply a cut and paste. I should have added some quotations and a link. Sorry if anyone might think the words were mine.
Having said that, I have heard others say good things about the place.

For Wayne747, if you visit Chiangkhan, how about a post-visit report for the forum.....guest house, restaurant, general atmosphere, etc. I'm sure the others would welcome your comments.

all, thanks a lot for the advices.
Parrot, I will be sure to do that if I visit.
Usually, however, all my carefully laid farang plans hit the stark reality of LOS disorganization, so I can't be sure I go or not :^o

I guess either guesthouse is good, so we will see which has room available.

thx again guys 8)
