It will be an interesting game that is for certain pompui. Good to get an idea of what the new man has in his sights for Chelsea this year & an idea of how they are going to play.
Some would say that your idea of a Chelsea win is as optimistic as England actually holding out to anything like the kick off time... :D :D
As a United fan I would, obviously, prefer them to score 5 in the first 10 minutes :D :D Think it will be as tight an encounter as these affairs usually are, with neither side keen to get off to a losing start. Suspect that Chelsea actually have the edge today. United without Vidic looked far more fragile than they did with him during the last season.

With an injured Wes Brown also, interesting what lineup in front of foster? for todays game. Not sure what the weather is like back in England at the moment, rain?or sun? and if sun do they still water the grass up to an hour before kick off to help with the game?
Anyway given up watching cricket on S2 at the moment, looking to the fridge for some inspiration in the form of Tiger beer :D

Something like O'Shea,Ferdinand,Evans and Evra I would have thought.
I would put Chelsea as favourites with Ronaldo and Tevez gone as well but all depends how Chelseas ageing midfield shapes up,I reckon.

Evans proved himself a very capable centre half last season - just think he is more secure playing alongside a no-nonsense Vidic than an airy fairy Ferdinand. The sides will be interesting though - especially who starts for both. O'Shea especially will be looking to get more games than last season, although if United don't get their defensive midfield position sorted, it could be there..... :D

I think Fletcher will be in the defensive midfield role tonight.
I was surprised Sir Alex didnt consider O'Shea for that role against Barcelona, although I doubt it would have made much difference.
If Hargreaves doesnt recover I'm sure United will invest some of the Ronaldo money in a long term replacement.

But Bob....."O'Shea especially will be looking to get more games than last season..."Are you trying to kill the lad ?

Most performances last season...Vidic 55,O'Shea 54,Ronaldo 53... :-k :D

I have to admit I was a bit surprised when he was no.2 in the list,Bob.
With Wes Brown out all season and Gary Neville only making sporadic appearances I reckoned he would be in the top six or seven appearances.
But one behind Vidic and more than Ronaldo,Van der Saar,Evra,Fletcher and Rooney did surprise me.
Anyway time to feed the cats and pour myself the first beer of the evening.Lets hope for an enjoyable game with the right result,of course ! [-o<

Strange first half (to me). Nani scored to make it 1 - 0. Lampard playing in the role Rooney played for United played last season & that is not his strength (as it is not Rooneys).
Foster had a mare ... will Sir A persist or not??? :( BUT goal maybe down to Cech.....
Up front Rooney has looked the buis.....Berbatov still has to convince me...

Chelsea 2 Manchester United 2 (Chelsea win 4-1 on penalties)

Well done to Chelsea. They shaded the game and Rooneys goal in injury time only gave United a brief repreive.
But what a nasty piece of work that German cnut Ballack is,as if we didnt already know !
Blatant foul on Evra before Chelseas second goal and then Evra booked for a tackle on Ballack that was hard but won the ball.
The referee was advertised as a Martin Atkinson so I was surprised that it actually turned out to be Rowan Atkinson !
But for United,Fosters kicking was atrocious and where are the goals going to come from now Ronaldo has gone.Nani, believe it or not,was Uniteds most creative player before he went off injured.
Incidentally the last two nights I have been in drinking Siam Sato. I got it from 7/11 a few days ago priced at 25 baht for a large bottle. Its more like a wine than a lager but at 8% proof certainly has a kick to it.I didnt like the original taste but after a couple of days have become attuned to it....two bottles and I'm well oiled, honest !
For those expats with money concerns paying 50 baht per night to get reasonably canned may be an attractive option !
