Its a retail outlet in Udon that has been set up to provide a service to the expat community in Udon and surrounding provinces. Obviously the owners identified a need in the business plan / analysis etc for the expanding expat population here.
The majority of products and particularly some brand name stock Eg Branston Pickles, Sharwoods Curry mixes etc can not be found in Udon with the local retail outlets such as Tesco , Big C , Makro .
They can be found in Villa, Emporium or Siam Paragon supermakets in Bangkok.
Other stock is directly imported from the UK, at fully imported prices that reflect the associated costs.
Judging on the comments in this thread, there has been overwelming support for this niche supermarket. It has definately generated a change in the way some locals consume products. Its provided the products and incredients for many to cook at home again, both to save a few bob due to reduced exchange rates and also many of us still enjoy cooking our favourite meals from our departed lands.
On top of the supermarket stock, it has a great deli , providing some excellent rolls, subs , etc with hickory chicken , hams, and a range of fresh salads to go with them.
My summary would be, this has been a successful small business that has started in the worlds biggest recession, it survived the honeymoon period and continues to have repeat customers , who are happy with the products, snacks, and of course the prices.
I assure you there are many locals who do watch their pennies and that is respected, but they also go there to buy some specialised cheeses, sausages, and of course their Branstons !
Thanks to Jon and the team for providing this outlet.
