Even she is not without controversy BM.
Claims she was a communist sympathiser in the McCarthy era.
A republican candidate in California - supporting the war in Vietnam - lost.
Gained 'diplomatic' duties for the USA on the basis of her name, rather than any experience.
Temple's films were not always seen in a positive light. The novelist Graham Greene wrote in a review for the magazine Night and Day of her appearance in Wee Willie Winkie:

Her admirers - middle-aged men and clergymen - respond to her dubious coquetry, to the sight of her well-shaped and desirable little body, packed with enormous vitality, only because the safety curtain of story and dialogue drops between their intelligence and their desire.[13]

George Cole - first film at age 16 (not 5...)
Mickey Rooney - After battling drug addiction and a near bankruptcy caused by gambling and bad investments,[9] Rooney became a born-again Christian in the 1970s, reportedly after an angel appeared to him in a coffee shop. Married 8 times - yeah pretty normal....
Des O'Conner - I believe did not enter show business until he was 23.

Ron Howard - a good luck story for certain - although he started at 15 & not 5
Brooke Shields
In the spring of 2005, Shields spoke to magazines (such as Guideposts) and appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to publicize her battle with postpartum depression, an experience that included depression, thoughts of suicide, an inability to respond to her baby's needs and delayed maternal bonding.
Yeap a happy bunny for sure.....

Got to admit bob I have racked my brains and most of the ones I can think of (international stars ) have had issues, though not as bad or dark as jackos proven or otherwise.
But then of course you do have ant and dec or david jones, its not all black and white when your looking at the man in the mirror, still I don't wanna be startin something so I'll beat it. :D

Dennis Waterman

Hayley Mills

Dexter Fletcher

RIP Michael Jackson, an undoubted influence with Quincy Jones in modern pop, whatever he did.

If you believe this is a suitable life style then I will not argue - however I, personally, would not wish to live my life this way.....

Ron Howard started his career at the ripe age of 6 when he starred in the hit series "The Andy Griffith show" (which is still being shown on reruns in the USA) and performed many other roles during in his youth, including "Music Man" when he was about 9.

As for Brooke Shields (at one time my true love, but alas it was not to be :( ) I hardly think that suffering from post partum depression after the birth of a child damns her to being described as "ended up with emotional and mental problems & usually ended up killing themselves".

And as for Shirley Temple. Horrors!!! She supported the war in Vietnam, and was a Republican candidate! Surely she should be burned at the stake.

Give it up, Bob. Although I agree with the point you made about MJ, you lost the argument on that one sweeping statement about child stars.

OK Jimbo I admit my mistake.
All child stars grow up to be well adjusted, normal adults who can handle the rest of their lives with no issues what so ever.
I believe that every parent has a duty to force their children into some sort of fame & fortune as soon as they are born as it is obviously a hugely beneficial thing to do.
There are, obviously no cases whether this has been detrimental to the infants' development & Mr. Jackson was, obviously, just an evil human being who's upbringing had zero effect on the rest of his life.... :yikes:

Is there such a beast as a well adjusted, normal adult in Western society? It's all relative isn't it?

The issue is whether show business affects later adult behaviour in children, evidence demonstrates it most probably does. Those involved in the trade are needy and egocentric (or their parents are) which is why they are there in the first instance. A very sad and lethal mix.
