Children's Day. 8th Jan

Postby trubrit » January 6, 2011, 9:49 am

Yes another year gone and its Children's Day again this coming Saturday. So a quick reminder to all those that have kids or are just kids at heart them selves .Most government agencies in Udon will be open to entertain them, ranging from the military to the police .My personal favourites being the Thai Royal Air Force who will have numerous displays, both static and flying. The Army camp next door will also have a lot of military vehicles on show, and a recruiting tent, if you want to get your kid signed up .Both places will also have the usual food and drink stalls, (some free to the kids),sorry Dad.
I also enjoy the police dog handlers display at the police canine center on the Sakhon Nakhon road, straight over the fly over at Big C.This year though I will be staying nearer home helping the police to entertain the kids of Nong Wau Sor at the sports field in front of the station located at Non Wai. We are erecting a stage and putting up a sound system and hoping to have a karaoke contest for different age groups. There will be a knockout football competition for the older lads, plus a goal scoring contest . Lots of snacky food and coke donated by local shops. Hopefully a good time will be had by all, so if your in the area, why not pop by ? \:D/

Anyone knows if the 1-2-Go machine at the airport will be opened for the kids again?

Should be a good day, nice of you to donate your time and effort to the cause trubrit, hope you get a good turn out.
I would of liked to take my step daughter to the Air Force show as I'm in the UK Air Force myself, only I'm not back until the end of Jan. I'm sure the family will go to one of the events though, is there anything special happening at UD Town that anyone knows of?

Sorry to report the kids day at Nong Wau Sor has now been cancelled 'Due to operational reasons?" I am guessing that "someone" is coming and the police will be on duty . :-" To my knowledge everything in town is still going on .

TB, Thanks for the reminder. Could you post directions to the canine center? ("Over the fly" doesn't translate well into American-English. ) I understand it's on Sakhon Nakhon road, how far from the ring road and on which side?

The best show for the kids is over at wing 23. OT likes the bit when the co-pilot of the helicoptor chucks sweets at the kids as the helicoptor passes by. It's comical watching 100's of kids scrambling for the goodies as they rain down. I've never seen anyone get hurt which is surprising.

OT.............. \:D/

I will never forget in KK a few years ago , on a domestic flight to BKK, all checked in, and 000's of kids and parents at the airport, all on the tarmac, with no crowd control / barrriers etc. Walking up to the plan touching the tyres,

Due to the chaos everywhere on the tamac the luggage was late arriving for loading and when it did arrive, parents, kids , all sitting and crawling all over it .

I asked the TG staff , what security issues are in place, they just said none, its kids day and i asked for my bag to be removed and my ticket to be changed to the evening flight , as i wasnt prepared to accept any tampering with bags etc.

I wrote to TG - BKK about it and got the usual reply - its Kids day, they missed the bit about security and how easy it would be to plant any suspect object on the plane.

I rummaged this up from an Udon news site online (in Thai). I just ran it through google translate, so take everything with a grain of salt. Be forewarned: if you're not interested in going to the AF show, I'd advise staying far away from Tahan Rd and the statue traffic circle. The traffic backup is usually horrendous.
