Postby BKKSTAN » September 28, 2006, 11:04 am

:) I was reading somewhere that Thais don't like Chinese tourists!I wonder why?
Tourism: Chinese tour groups start to return

With the situation in Thailand stabilising after the coup, tours from China have resumed.

The Xinhua News Agency says the first group of 21 travellers left Guangzhou on Monday, and major travel agencies there predict tours will be back to normal by today.

However, travel-agency statistics show that 30-50 per cent of people planning to visit Thailand have changed their minds. Twenty per cent have deferred their departure date, and 10-20 per cent have cancelled. - The Nation.

Thais have told me that they consider that Chinese are loud (as in loudly spoken), too direct and impolite. So I think there is a tendency not to like them.

A lot of the dislike of Chinese stems from jealousy, for the Chinese own and run this country.Chinese tourists are tarred with the same brush.Thai Chinese have all the wealth and that breeds resentment among the Thais. The most used phrase is "kee niow",but the Chinese i know are very free with the cash and big spenders. They do love a Merc and chunky jewellery.

Ying Tung, Ying tung,Ying tung tiddllie poo.
Being serious though. Most of the Chinese that come here do so on an inclusive package with everything included, except maybe a bit of shopping for durian, which they love. They are escorted from morn to night by tour guides touting large umbrellas. They have paid for the tour and literally are told not need any other money. So they are not actually kinieouw, just don't have any. Unless you are one of the appointed shops or restaurants to visit then they are just an annoyance to other traders.Nether the less if you are on that list, as are the Katoy show palaces and selected hotels, it is good regular business.

My Thai friends tell me the same things.
They are 'Ying' (Look down on Thai's)
Don't tip
Tight with money
Have no manners

I think a little envy creeping in.
