Chorn Ngern / Silver Spoon Restaurant

Postby laphanphon » September 18, 2008, 6:18 pm

Chorn Ngern/Silver Spoon, new spot I noticed yesterday on the way to Relax 39. Popped in today, w/Ree for lunch. Another very relaxed lunch experience. Options for dining outside or inside with music at decent non intrusive level. Comfortable seating, wood chairs with view of nicely kept garden area with waterfall/pond area.

Service was prompt and attentive, as we arrived shortly after lunch crowd. Just another couple there. Menu is in Thai only, with many accurate pictures, though a bit of a red tint to all of them.

Food was tasty and well presented, arriving quickly to the table. Ree had a seafood/veggie/black pepper thing, very nice, along with som tam seafood, also tasty, and a rice. I went with the fried chicken and rice/some veggies (carrot/mush in gravy), which was nice, thinly sliced white meat, at first thought skin as looking thin, but turn out nice, mere 45 baht. Second dish for myself was a very tasty red curry seafood thing (crab/prawn/squid), nicely flavored, 95 baht. About the size of my fist. Water 15/ice 10. Wanted coffee, but apparently out of the flavoring I wanted (hazelnut), also out of what Ree wanted. Coffee is Bon Cafe, all served hot or cold, with standard BC selection of regular and chilled desert type coffees. Not sure what Ree’s cost, but guessing 80/50/15. Pricing ranges from 45 to most expensive item 245, whole fishes. Tasty and well presented accompanied by very efficient non intrusive service. Give it a medium for food value. Total bill was 310.

All Thai food. Soups were in the 90/155 range single/group serving. Pics of all the standard dishes, all looking rather nice. Beers, sorry, either high end or reasonably prices. Singha 80, Hein 90, Chang 60, Leo 50? Draft chang 65? My apologies, I forgot to look at the cold box on exit to see if small (expensive) or large (fair) bottles. But if Chang draft is 65, it better be a small pitcher, and not a regular glass/mug, which case would put it in the high end pricing.

Well worth a visit, quiet neighborhood, over by Srichai Thani Village development, which I tried to get in pic of sign. Map ref: G14, off of Asawamit rd. I’m sure to make a return visit.

This is quite a nice restaurant. I went there with my very good friend and her nephew one morning before the lunch crowd arrived. It was a bit more expensive than most restaurants we had visited but the decor and setting was nicer too. My friend and her nephew were quite satisfied with the som tam, prawn soup, and other dishes they ordered. However, the waiter who served us forgot to pass on the order I made for the three of us, which caused a number of laughs and a slight delay in our departure.

By the time we left, the place had filled up, mostly with Chinese patrons. One Chinese lady even brought her own bottle of Johnny Walker, which the waitress used to ensure that the glass of the Chinese lady was never free of alcohol.

My most respected friend was even kind enough to obtain the telephone number of one of the waitresses in case I wanted to meet the very young lady later for dinner.

No, there was no escape at all. Why even flying back to Canada from Hong Kong, I was befriended by a very nice Vietnamese lady who has been a widow for two years. However, as soon as the airplane landed in Toronto, she disappeared and I have had nary a glance from any female since.

My dear and trusting friend in Udon has gently asked me if I have contacted any of these ladies since my return, and I have answered in the negative. She wanted to know why I have neglected these women and muttered something about my 'popularity'. I think I answered correctly by stating that I was only interested in her; however, the silence on the end of the line makes me think I must have made a mistake somewhere during my recent travels, which has prompted a little miscommunication and misunderstanding between us. I fear that only a shopping spree, at my expense, can put us to rights.
