Chorus Line by Steve Graham
For many years, my children learned to play musical instruments, as well as sing and dance at a local music/education center in Udon Thani. I’m not sure how we found the place as it is a bit off the beaten track; however, my children were regular customers for about six years until they became teenagers and decided that young adults of that age pursued different activities during their free time.
My son Sam for some reason decided that he wanted to play the violin and my daughter Chelsea decided that a piano was going to be her musical instrument. During the time they attended the school, they learned to play many other instruments including the classical guitar, the electric guitar, the drums, as well as having lessons on singing and dancing.
They met with many other different kids from a multitude of backgrounds which have lead to friendships that still exist today. It is a shame that they don’t go there now as they used to every weekend on Saturdays and Sundays; however, as my children have grown up, their interests have changed. Today, they can still play their instruments and I believe it has given them a lot of self-confidence as they found themselves playing in public on several occasions.
This was something that could not be conceived of if we were living in England as the cost would be astronomical compared to the local rates that are charged here. I am reliably informed that it costs over 3,000 baht an hour for music lessons in England compared to the 2,500 baht for 30 hours that are on offer at Chorus Line. Over the years a healthy relationship has developed between the teachers, my children and of course, myself.
Chorus Line has a recording studio and video facilities, so as well as the commercial business that obviously pays the bills, the children who attend the school have the opportunity to make videos and sound recordings of their singing, dancing and of course their musical prowess with an instrument. This obviously motivates the kids who are taking part and gives parents the satisfaction of seeing their children perform on their television sets at the click of a remote.
From the pictures, you can see that this is not the most luxurious recoding studio in the world; however, although the facilities look a bit rough and ready, the professionalism that is shown by the staff is second to none and I have used their recording, editing and DVD production services several times before and they have never let me down. The quality of the recordings is extremely good, so if you are looking for a recording studio for a price that doesn’t break the bank, this is the place to go to.
They are situated at Soi 2, Phon Phisai Road in the center of town; however, in the very near future, I am told that they will be moving to a new location as the river that runs by the side of the building overflows every time there is rainfall, making it very difficult to produce an effective service underwater. You never know, this could be an underdeveloped niche in the market. Who knows?
