Christmas dinner in udon

Hi everyone.Can anybody recommend a good restaurant which has all the authenticity of christmas and serves up the traditional menu.We plan on spending christmas and new year in udon.Myself and the wife and 2 year old.

Irish Clock. But i believe very popular so have to book. Not exactly a restaurant but worth asking about.

I think TJ's has traditional holday meals and reports are very good!

I don't attend because they don't accept our little dog,which is fair and their business option!

Maybe you have started this thread too early,remembered last year Jackspratt mentioning his local drinking hole had a value for money menu for Xmas.
Since we have some sponsors like Good Everything who will put their Xmas menu on their website, we also have a couple of new businesses like Chern Chim or Kinnaree who may want a slice of the action,just hope Xmas day is not on a Sunday at Chern Chim,Jon to cook the bird [-o<

Remember some forumites going to the Khonkaen resort for Xmas,forget which,and staying there and enjoying the break as well.
At least this will get the sponsors and others to start their menu and get the info on this thread.

Well here in the UK christmas decorations are being displayed next to the halloween displays,so we seem to be getting ahead of ourselves.I hope starting this thread will as you say will get the ball rolling in udon as bars/restaraunts close and new ones open.

I personally have never spent time away from the UK at christmas,it's alway's been a homely affair,but this year were looking forward to see what udon has to offer and to spend it in the warmth instead of the cold horrible, dark, dank weather in the UK.

Does Castle Howchow Resort do a Christmas Dinner event?

I think the Bandung Boys Brigade, go in Eddies Sports Bar for their Christmas repast. I've heard Eddie laid on a real feast last year.

I only know of the Irish Clock. In Udon.

I reckon now Jon is here and his fantastic shop, a lot of guys will stay at home and enjoy their Turkey Dinner with Paxo stuffing, Christmas Pudding, and Walkers shortbread biscuits.

Perhaps bar owners/sponsors can post here and tell us of their Bill of Fayre for the Christmas Season.

You may well lauph but at this time of the year the locals are rugged up in Jackets and hats and can't stand the bitter cold. Last year it was 14c in the early morning and 26c by about 2 O"clock in the afternoon. Absolutely beautiful

by the way, when I say locals I don't just mean Thais

We went to Thailand last year Feb time,and i liked the cooler weather,especially in udon.You can sleep at night for us westerners.Going to the wifes parents about an hours drive away the villagers have fires lit to keep them warm.I just had a pair of shorts on

The irish clock is mentioned quite a lot on this forum.Have they in the past (trimmed up for christmas)?

Thanks for the kind words prenders.... i obviously hoping quite afew people up here in Udon get there christmas fayre from Chern Chim and have a feast at home. got all the nessessary requirements coming in shortly inc turkey , ham joints and xmas pudding etc . paxo and most of the other stuff is in CC now and will be all year round.
I am not carrying a massive stock of turkeys they are and will be avalaible to order from late OCTOBER ONWARDS need to know the approx size required and the cut (whole bird , breast or crown). i woild hazzard a guess to say there wont be any available after mid December SO ORDERING EARLY IS IMPORTANT.

details of the CC CHRISTMAS HAMPER FREE DRAW will be posted soon.

Xmas here can be fun what I miss are the parsnips, cooked in butter, truly fattening and bad for you but no luck over the past years, anyone any idea where we can get parsnips? Please

I think along same lines KP,parsnips and swede are distinctly missing here in LOS for expats. Pray someone can point us in the right direction to a supplier whether Bangkok,Pattaya.
Can they be easily grown here?

And Prenders remember an udonmap member going there,Anzyron? and since the OP has a 2 year old,maybe a resort for the xmas period is an option,along as car hire is done.

Im working on the parsnips and swede pomps... been talking to the same people i get my rhubarb from - not grown in los but obtainable. will keep u posted .

For crying out aloud!!! One of the biggest reasons I chose Thailand as my home was to get out of the XMAS and other commercialism bullshlt! WTF does anyone want to know about a Christian festivity in Thailand.

It's a Buddhist country if you had not noticed!

ASSIMILATE! You guys expect the drifters into your home country to abide by your rules so why not do it here?

no argument here, i love no longer celebrating xmas, possibly my most hated holiday, the marketeers are trying, uppity locals fake it, that's a head scratcher and try to get into the act, but happily, it really doesn't exist here...........though always up for a turkey dinner.

When I first arrived in Udon in Dec 1966 I noticed a lot of Christmas lighting in the bars, nightclubs and shop windows around town. I thought, "Great! They celebrate Christmas here!". Pretty soon before I knew it January, Feb, March and April rolled by and the same lights were on every night. Obviously, this was before Udon discovered neon lighting. :lol:

We've gone down to Pattaya the last couple of Christmases just to get away. Somehow, Christmas in Udon just doesn't fit. Listening to Christmas carols in Tesco-Lotus always seems bizarre in a Buddhist country, IMO.
